I know the Roll wouldn't be a hard and fast rule and of course it would be up to the other PC's to choose if they like it or not. I was thinking that Cheft type character would make some food and say Pumpkin Pie. (After killing the scarecrows to get the pumpkins.) He might roll at 20 on making his pie and the give some PIE to others. One PC likes Pumpkin Pie and see's the 20 and says that is some great PIE. Another PC might say yuck I hate pumpkin pie it doesn't mean that the PIE was made bad? Now Wisdom as an ability check? Hmmm... So clerics can not only heal you then can make you a tasty meal! *looks to Liadan and Lydia* I am hungery if I kill it will you cook it? Edit: PS Can we get a +1 laddel of soup making?

I didn't really spend much time on it, but after searching some six different berry patches on the road from Redmist to Suzail, I didn't find anything, and neither did anyone else in my party... is there a stat/skill that effects foraging? Or do we just have crappy luck?

I'll try and explain, sorry if I'm a bit confusing sometimes, english isn't my first language. What I think I meant was that a fighter wont necceraly -have- to rest when they've been out fighting and killing stuff, because a few (or many in somes cases ) healing kits and htey are back to normal hit points, and it's not like they need to rest to get their main thing to kill stuff with back (the weapon). Where as a mage/cleric/other spellcasters will -have- to rest to get theirs back (the spells). As for the adding of fun, please do not get me wrong or think it's a personal attack it's no such, many I'd think especially at a server as FRC would already roleplay out that aspect, as it is now we are actually forced into doing it. And when it comes to it .. no I don't actually eat every 4th hour *hides* but that's because I can't eat brakfast and got a screwed up sleepingpattern so .. urhm I don't think it counts. Love Hanne

Now I catch your drift. Yeah, you are right about most fighters not needing to rest in the middle of an adventure if there are adequate healing supplies. Course that mostly applies to lower levels, imo, because as you stated before it also affects people who rely on per day usables.
Eh, don't know what else to add ... so *zips it*

Love Hanne I know that in whatever party my character travels in, if she rests and eats, shes' going to be passing out food to the others. She carries a supply (yes, it's heavier, but a good cleric takes care of her party members! lol). So, since the intent is rp-oriented, I don't think this is a huge problem.

Now that I've had the chance to experience the system... Yup, I like it. I was wary at first because I was misinterpreting it that the stat drops would happen if you don't eat after a certain amount of time, but I'm cool with it being that the stat drops only kick in when you rest. And DM Greenhouse is correct that it does effect fighter types at the higher levels when they need to activate some 1/per day items in order to survive fights. Think of it this way: Not many fighters can take on the heavier dungeons without the need for magical aid of some form. Be it buffs from a fellow party member or a cloak that adds to their protection when they activate it. One way or another they will need food either for themselves or for their magically inclined party members. At the lower levels perhaps not so much, but if they want to get anywhere farther up in levels then they will have to contend with the sustenance system. I would think that this is exactly what the intent of it is. What I've mostly seen before is folks not roleplaying that when they set camp they have to take their time to sit and eat. They just take turns resting and that's it, then sometimes not even "break camp" by destroying the campsite. By doing it this way it does indeed force people to roleplay them taking time and eating. Anything that promotes roleplay should get a big nod. I would also have to ask what the DC on the search checks are for the bushes and mushrooms out in the wild. Our little party also had absolutely no luck in finding food (for reference we were going through the Bramblewood). I also take it that meat from animal remains are not set in treasure drops yet? Someone I know was looking forward to actually letting his character eat bear meat. And as for a successful cooking attempt I typically go with a Lore roll, but that's just me.

We hope to be working in multiple food sources (including meat) from the wilderness as we go. There is alot of ground to cover and we will be adding things in as fast as possible.

I think Lore checks for cooking sounds better to me. If you think of it as the more spices and herb knowledge one has would factor more into the quality of cooking. Also the history of certain dishes and the origins of a dish couldn't hurt when cooking. Its all just RP fun anyway.
Next thing yow ole' Sam is gonna be out of job and homeless cause he cant get in his house.

Or do we just have crappy luck? Yes, there are stats/skills that are taken into account for a foraging hunt. We aren't talking what those are, but they make common sense.
