Planar Ally spells have an xp penalty in PnP, Planar Bindings spells do not. That being said, in PnP, Planar Binding is a risky spell, as the called creature may break free from the spell and attack the caster. There is no such risk involved with Planar Ally, as the creature called is send by the casters god, and thereby, an ally. But, as there is no way in nwn that you can simulate the breakout possibilities without a new script, it is easier to just add the same penalties on Planar Bindings as there are on Planar Ally, as the effect is completely the same. And, with Planar Binding, even if it is called to fight demons, it is held on the prime against its will. Just look at the first sentence in the description of the spell Lesser Planar Binding: "Casting this spell attempts a dangerous act: to lure a creature from another plane to a specifically prepared trap, which must lie within the spells range."
My take on it.

well its one thing to look at a a DND player hand book and go hey that would be cool, but the summons on FRC are already nerfed to death. And take experince points is not really putting a drain on the caster, its taking his actually experinces of his own life. personally I can only call a deva for 11 minutes. so now that 11 minutes costs me 150 xp ... its now just a useless spell.. like charm person or something.. and I am not tell dms what to do... just my two cents.. but DND and NWN are diffrent things, it may be based on DND but it is diffrent. If they were the same, they're be scrying and a whole lot of messed up stuff in the game, that I have no clue about because I have never played DND. The servers great. and puts you into the frogotten realms novels world and all, but the spells should still at least be usuable.
anyways as I said this is my opinion and 2 cents not saying.. yey change it now..
