Forest Kingdom of Cormyr
Hold of Valkur's Roar
The Baron's Reserves
Office of the High Inquisitor
Greetings and well met, fellow Cormyreans...
Please allow me to introduce myself... I am Tanya Steel; long-serving Inquisitor of Valkur's Roar and loyal defender of the just and lawful citizens who call it home. Valkur's Roar is the youngest Hold in Cormyr, less than two decades old in its current reckoning, while the city itself is much older, having survived multiple eras of hardships and catastrophes under different governments and names, the most recent deviation being "Redmist". I'll not delve deeply into history with this address, for my purpose here is not to review the past yet again, but instead to look toward the future.
Valkur's Roar has been growing faster than any hold in the kingdom, thanks to the efforts of its citizens, its council of lords and their representatives, and especially Cormyr's greatest resource common throughout the holds of the kingdom - chartered adventurers. This address means to communicate with the lattermost. Often, adventurers express interest in the force behind the recovery of our fair city and hold, wondering about our people, our Baron, our history, and especially the Baron's Reserves. In this address, I will provide a brief explanation of the Reserves and provide the knowledge needed to help curious adventurers who wish to learn more.
The Baron's Reserves is a voluntary service entity divided into three portions, each division with its own separate field of expertise and responsibilities. These three divisions often intermingle to complete objectives and address threats and concerns. The three divisions are the Guard (Elite), the Mageguard, and the Inquisitors. Rather self-explanatory, the Guard and Mageguard are comprised of those leaning toward the martial and the arcane, respectively. The Inquisitors division focuses not on a predisposition of either criteria, and is made up of those individuals with constabulary inclinations, such as law-enforcers, bounty hunters, investigators and the like. The divisions all share a rank system to account for each member's growth in accomplishments and leadership potential. These ranks, as stated from the Guard Elite perspective for simplicity, are Private, Corporal, and Sergeant among the enlisted core members. Beyond these ranks, the officer ranks hold one Lieutenant per division, and one division leader (being Captain, High Magician, and High Inquisitor). The three division leaders are responsible to one Castellan; in this case, Lord Castellan Aluxar Crownsilver. The Castellan is responsible to the King's-Lord, Baron Azorus Crownsilver. The Baron, in turn, is responsible to the Lord-Warden of the Western Reaches, who answers to the royal Crown of Cormyr itself.
The origin of the Baron's reserves can be credited to one person - former High Inquisitor Vera Gudwerks. The Reserves has been a force formally recognized by the Crown for roughly a decade, and has been instrumental in settling various problems encountered by the citizenry of the hold. The Reserves is entirely made up of chartered adventurers who have opted to apply their adventuring privilege to the welfare of the people of Valkur's Roar, and as volunteers, do not receive any monetary compensation for their contributions; rather opting to see that wealth put back into the city for the welfare of the citizenry and the lands they call home. Those who read this and ponder upon the just and noble purpose behind such a longspanning effort should pay special attention; for it is -you- that this address is meant to reach. You are the reason the Reserves exist at all, and without you, the hold of Valkur's Roar and its citizens would be forced to face unimaginable hardships and evils... alone and without aid or hope.
As you read this, you may feel compelled to learn more about how your contributions to such a noble cause might be applied... where do I go? Who do I talk to? The answers are short and simple - if you want to learn more about the Baron's Reserves, the division leaders and their Lieutenant officers are knowledgeable and ready to help with answers. The Guard Elite is led by Captain Runa Rothgar and her Lieutenant Lheonard Vester. The Mageguard is led by Mage-Sergeant Eranin Ketia in lieu of former High-Magician Pollyanna Pea, recently vacant of office. The Inquisitors are led by High Inquisitor Tanya Steel and Lieutenant-Inquisitor Vennis Haler. These are the people to find, for those who wish a person-to-person interaction about the Reserves. Another option is written correspondence to the Great Hall of Valkur's Roar, care of Lord Castellan Crownsilver or one of the division leaders. The last common option is to attend one of the Reserves musters, held as needed and announced respectively to the public.
Service under the Lord Baron's guidance is no trifling matter; it involves a legally binding oath that expires only at the will of the Baron himself. If such a calling is something that interests you... if you want to hear the oath of service verbatim or learn more about our members, our mission, and our outlook, you have only to pursue one of the aforementioned methods. We welcome you to learn more, and stand ready to help you discover a greater purpose in service to the good people of Valkur's Roar. In times of hazard and times of peace, we stand ready to answer the Baron's call... will you?
