I remember reading a thread a while back about what exactly constitues ninja looting and whether or not stealthing past monsters counts or not. I didnt have a stealthy character then, but now I do and I can't find the thread. I'm thinking that if my character hides in shadows and enters a dungeon or a new area, picks up the loot and leaves all the spawns then this is ninja looting and is not acceptable. But what if my character hides in shadows to explore a new region, and spawns a few monsters that are too hard for him to cope with? Should I then turn back and get to safety, or could I stealth past them to explore more? If I'm exploring in stealth and not looting but still leaving spawns is this acceptable? Can I have some clarification please? Thanks

This is correct. No. If you see that the spawns are too tough, turn around and leave the area. Leaving a bunch of spawns behind causes lag for everyone...and odds are if the initial spawns are too tough, it's not going to get any easier.

Besides, you never know when that one spawn with a higher spot or listen will nail your butt for going in.

I would like to add, do not stealth past "easy" spawns either because you are in a hurry. You should try to eliminate what your character is capable of handling. If you run into monsters that are too difficult, it is acceptable to leave them behind. But do not push forward thinking they will get easier (chances are they won't).

That's pretty much the answer I was expecting, but the confirmation is appreciated.
Thanks

Just remember, cleaning up your spawns is common courtesy to your fellow players. If you leave spawns it will 1) increase the lag, and 2) possible spawn things that someone of a slightly lower level would not be able to fight on their own (or even in a party), so please, please, TRY to clean up your mess.

Farming is doing the same quest over and over to gain gold and XP.

Farming, (as well as its close relation "camping"- spending an overly long amount of time in an area, "making laps" as it were) can be defined as repeated "exploration" of the same area over a brief period of time. For example:
If a DM logs in and they find a character in the same area everyday, or said character is going back to the same area half a dozen times in a day....the player is farming, and that just is not good.
