FRC DM Team,
I recently found your server (about two weeks ago) and have enjoying it tremendously.
I have a question and little info also. I often play by myself but sometimes my son (9 Years old) likes to play with me.
First Question: Is it ok if he plays on your server? He tries real hard to RP but he can't type fast and misspells everything. And sometimes (read usually) acts his age. Doing silly things or talking OOC. I am trying to teach him how this RP works. He is learning and does a good job most of the time but does make mistakes.
If it is OK then please notify your team about my son so that when a DM Corrects something he is doing he will keep in mind that Kaleb is only 9. His account is name is Kaleb711 and his character is Kaleb Killgrin.
Second Question:
Where can I find info on a PC being merchant types?
I want to create a unique character that is in the business of finding, buying, and selling unique items. I want to grow to become know as the guy who has that thing you need. I also want to offer identification services and play something of a Lore Master. I want to be able to brew potions and scribe scrolls and sell them to other players. This will allow for some nice RP and give me reason to meet and interact with more players. My PC won't give things away at too big a discount but be cheaper than the established stores. Forexample he would ID an item for 60gp and cell scrolls for 80% of the price of the store. I would establish relationships with players and offer discounts to "old friends". I am not looking to throw off the game balance just trying to "find my place in the world".
Third Question: Will I be yelled at for doing that?
Fourth Question: How do you feel about my PC also being somethign of a loan shark type. Need 100 gp to buy that Cure disease scroll sure I will loan it to ya. But you have to pay back 150 or Bruno here gets rough.

Fourth Question: How do you feel about my PC also being somethign of a loan shark type. Need 100 gp to buy that Cure disease scroll sure I will loan it to ya. But you have to pay back 150 or Bruno here gets rough. First, welcome to the server, I'm glad you're enjoying your stay. I believe I was probably around 9 myself when I first started doing online sims and RP, and looking back on it, I must say, I wasn't very good. That being said however, if he wants to give it a shot, that's fine. I know plenty of people that have played on this server who were crumby spellers, or slow-typers, and they still provides some of the best storylines and plots that I've seen. The DM's always try and approach people politely when we see them acting out of character or the like, so while I can't promise we'll give him special attention, we will give him the same benefeit we give everyone who comes here. With any luck, he'll pick it up quick and have a lot of fun. So long as someone is trying their best to RP, and they're willing to learn and listen to the DM's, there won't be any problem at all. As with any player however, if he is too disruptive we may ask him to leave. Disruptive does not mean that his character may come off as loud and obtrusive, but the things that are unacceptable, such as random PvP, slaughtering NPC's because it's not banned via game mechanics, and not heedign DM warnings. I would actually be more concerned about the OOC tells he may recieve from other players however, as their criticizing may be more blunt and less friendly. At least until he gets the hang of it, it would be a good idea to keep an eye on him. Second, we already have many established player merchants here, and it works exactly as you described. Third, you will only be yelled at if you are selling powerful magical items at unfairly reduced prices, especially if they are going to brand new players who are too low in level to have a large assortment of magical items. If you keep your prices around 80%, it should be good, since you'll be getting more then an NPC merchant would pay, and still undercutting the stores. If you still want more advice on this, go ahead and post in the General Discussion thread, and some of our PC merchants can give you pointers. Fourth, I personally think it sounds fantastic. Again, keep in mind that you should not loan out 100k to a new player for any reason. Partly because they may leave and never come back to the server, but also partly to prevent them from getting those crazy magic items. It's all about balance. Good luck, and thanks for playing at FRC! ~Gallin

Thanks, for the quick reply. Kaleb *usually* only play on your server when I am around. I will make sure he behaves himself.
As far as the loan shark goes I am was thinking of adding to my char slowly overtime. He has to make some money first. I also wouldn't loan to peeps that I haven't grown to trust and have faith in them paying it back.
Also, I was thinking I could hire other players to be Bruno and collect for me. Or have Kaleb created a Body gaurd bouncer type to work with my character so we can play as a duo.
Is there a way to engage in combat without actually killing another PC? I know this mechanism was in the old PnP game. It would be the equivolent of ruffing up someone behind on their payments?
I think it would bring a little bit of fun nefariousness to Isnhold. Its quite the proper little town as it is. I mean I could RP keeping a low profile so the PDK's don't kick his but.
With that being said. Is loan sharking against the law here in Isnhold?
Thanks for your time.

Welcome to the server. I would also like to point out that, though this server tries to be family friendly, there are instances were events/conversations are geared towards adults. Not all players read these forums, so it will not be known throughout the server about your son's character. Most players are fairly good about keeping adult content either behind closed doors or only with players they have been in close company with for a while. As for your merchanting deals, good luck! There are a few established PCs that play merchant type characters. As for loan sharking, I do not think that there is any Cormyrian law against it. How you collect your money may cause some legal issues though . There are also quite a few characters out there that will do the job for the right gold or right reasons.

Loansharking's only against the law if you get caught. Don't quote me on that. As for not killing PCs in a PVP fight, characters bleed out to -10, so if you can click off (either by clicking the fight icon in your upper left-hand corner, drinking/casting, or running) at the right time to stop the fighting, you can throw a healing kit on him and it'll be good. A good idea though is to carry raise dead scrolls on you, just in case you don't get off in time. And don't forget, you don't have to have a Bruno type to collect on your debts. There are plenty of low lifes of all sizes that will work for you and "take care of" someone for you... But remember, there's always a price. Oh, and welcome to your next best addiction! ;D

Thanks for your time. In short, there is no way to knock someone out using a method like subdual damage. The best you can do is either beat them up until they're "near death" and then leave them be, or simply kill them and then use a raise scroll on them and RP that they were knocked unconcous. Of course, that route is quite expensive, so you may want to discuss it with your target in an OOC tell first so they know what's going on. I do not BELIEVE loan sharking is illegal (though you may want to wait for a response from the other DM's first) but I don't think it's the kind of business you would want to parade around the city guard anyway. If nothing else, roughing up a guy who hasn't paid you back yet IS illegal. The guard would like you to take up that sort of matter in a court, not in an alley. ~Gallin

I have played a similar character to what you have described.
1. Good luck!
2. Loan sharking truely is not worth the hassel and you will lose money in the long run. But no will stop you from trying. Just Do not give alot of money to low level characters. Make the loan times very short. Like a matter of days RL.
3. Feel free to PM or ask in game if you need any advice. I play Kam Malagan.
