i know you can only have one pc in a guild...but what about a minor type guild thing? like a couple of us merchants being a guild without being a guild? is that possible? i know we can rp this but being a member of the merchant league or something? is that ok as several of us merchants would love to be able to join up as more of a political force and maybe even get like a benfit to our whatever as we hafta pay taxes to the crown would seem logical. heck, me and helg would love to even purchase the old smithy in redmist or vespers old pad to make it into the Stone Brothers Shop and Tavern. Is this a feasible option if we design it? And it would be open to the public plus be the headquarters for other merchants to sell as well making a easy place to go and look for us as we would be there as much as possible.

I may get overruled in my opinion, but this is what I think. The reason for the rule regarding characters and not being allowed into two guilds is to try to prevent a more mild case of metagaming. PC guilds often are privvy to certain bits of information and items. Though it makes absolute sense IC to be a part of multiple guilds, it could potentially ruin the fun. So I am not sure what you meant by a "minor guild". It would be perfectly acceptable to band together with your fellow merchants and set prices so that you all make profits. Do you need player housing and a webforum for that? Not really, but I can see the advantages to it. Certain players have been awarded housing on this server for excellent RP. So I do not think it would be completely out of the realm of possibilities if one day you were to get your own shop if that is what you requested. But there would need to be extensive RP for it. Can you be a part of two guilds? No. Can you be a part of one guild and another band of players that have a mutual housing organization and work together? Yes. Confused? I know I am.

i do not mean like web forum or anything..just a certain guild that all of us can be part of that has certainadvantages and disadvantages. not sure what they would be with a merchant guild..but also maybe joining the city guard or something as well. plus there is a group joining as a temple..a group joining as this or that but still being able to join the secret guilds. Like a merchant being a harper. member of the minor guild but mostly a memebr of a real guild...see what i mean? man, i am tired and not explaing this well at all...anyhow, thanks for the answer...and not player housing as we would like everyone able to enter it....

just a certain guild that all of us can be part of that has certainadvantages and disadvantages. What would these advantages be? I can see the rp possibilities in it, sure, but I'm liable to agree with Greenhouse on this one. You merchants could set up shop anywhere you wish, but to the answer if you can have your own shop or purchase one? Who knows? It would be nice, wouldn't it? ;D I'm not for allowing you to reap the advantages of two guilds at once though. Perhaps I don't understand what you want either.

He's looking to start an... Adventuring group, as it were. Only instead of adventuring, it would be merchants, who are part of the "Tea and Cake or Death" (or whatever they choose to name themselves) merchant group.
Which is fine. Make a group, start it up. You guys decide what to sell for how much. Meet in the Redmist Inn, talk to local merchants and get their input, etc. However if you want a shop or stall to sell from, you will have to go about and RP, maybe raise some money, and put in a request with one of our head builders about that.

There is a nice area in eveningstar you could meet in and sell stuff from. Or you could stand at an empty stand in Suzail.
;D

I wouldn't recommend setting up shop near the Oghrann though... business isn't very good there.

no, not really benefits like cool items and a hall...more like a shop where all of us local guys who do sell could meet and discuss prices, set up a this or that, even discuss what noble we would like to help back....in Cormyr and other parts of the Realms, merchants and their ilk do have alot of clout. So, being a member of the merchants Guild and a Harper, Banitie whatever, would be possible as in the guild light people would be trying to set agendas and such like. We would be supplying commerce for the Crown in dues and get to help set prices for our merchandise that all would follow to some degree. Plus, say someone is captured and we would like them sentenced harsher or get more leinacy, we could apply pressure to the locale constable....i know this sounds like alot of headache for nothing...but nevermind...i can see where this would be told no for. I am or was suggesting it as it seems like a logical thing. Kinda like being able to join the Arabel Guard or something. Or even the Redmist Guard. You could join the Six Coffers Trading Coaster or the Fire Knives or any of the groups currently acting in Cormyr and be able to go there without being attacked type thing. You could rp being a guard and arrest people in Redmist or isnhold. even be a corrupt one and take bribes. But these would be benefits like having power in that area and having to patrol and relay messages or standing in a shop for an hour would be the disadvantages. So, no real cool things like you get with the guilds, still able to be part of one of those secret/not so secret groups...so a guild light. *shrugs*just wondering but it seems like this would be hard to do and would lead to meta-gaming somehow i am sure.... (imagine ranan deciding to join the redmist guards, rises to a watch-captain and soon, an entire block of guards under his sway...or a Harper like Mirt the Moneylender becoming speaker of the merchant guild)

There is actually a very similar thread in the DM forums that began a week or so ago. So don't get disheartened. It's not a bad idea, but it might take some fleshing out to get something like that going, and there are some other projects on the front burner at the moment.
In the meantime, i'd encourage you to organize yourselves and do what it is you mean to do. There are plenty of empty market stalls in many cities where you could advertise you're presence for the time being. (Redmist, Suzail and Eveningstar to name three)
