Night settles upon the King's Forest as the wood cutter hurried his way back to Waymoot. He hoped to sell some of the wood to the wagon maker for a few extra coins when he stumbled upon a small band of goblins. They appeared to be painting symbols on trees with a red paint, but stopped when they saw him. The poor man yelped loudly in fear as he dropped what he had in his arms and tried to pull out his hatchet in trembling hands.
As the goblins chittered with glee advancing on the human a mighty roar echoed within the forest and a large creature burst from the foliage. It pounced on one of the goblins pinning it to the ground with strong clawed paws. The woodsman screamed in terror for it was a cat... taur? He backed up against a tree muttering a prayer for deliverance as the mancat ripped a screaming goblin apart with strong forelegs of a large cat. It hurled a spear through another goblin and pulled forth a longsword strapped to its side. One goblin in a dark horned helmet shouted something in a guttural speech and the rest charged it while the horned one ran off into the bushes.
Though they were terrifying the man cat shredded them as if they were nothing and then wiping its longsword upon a filthy goblin cloak, sheathed the blade, and approached. "Be wary human," it spoke in common, "for the lackeys of the Beastlord have infested this wood."
The wood cutter could do nothing, but stammer his thanks as warmth trickled down his legs. Sighing the creature's face softened, "It is not my intent to scare or intimidate you. I would offer you my aid should you wish it. I would ask one question though..."
Later the man would come running to Waymoot telling tales of a creature with the torso of a man, but with the face, long body and legs of a cat. "He was seeking some...," the woodsman would say before everyone laughed at his fantastic tale of rescue from terrifying goblins and his stained trousers.
