Does your character have an ending planned? I don't mean "get to (insert level here)". Is there some goal you have planned to reach before you retire your character?

Nope typically the ending writes itself in my pc's cases.

My first PC on FRC did not, and it eventually led to a feeling of boredom and asking where their next "fit" might be.
Every PC thereafter I did have an endgame in mind and it's been a much better experience playing them. My current PC not only has a Secret Bio (book on last inventory page with backstory) but it also includes elements towards that endgame so EDMs/DMs can see what drives the PCs actions.

Depends on the character. Generally, no. I usually find it more fun in RPGs to allow a character to develop within the setting and find a conclusion that way, rather than try to force the setting into my character's plan.

I don't have an endgame retirement in mind for Mynian. I've given her a lot of agendas and aims and goals and things she wants to accomplish and even if she gets to those goals there will be more she'll want to do. Whether or not she manages so survive long enough to complete those goals is a completely different subject matter.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. My characters usually have goals they want to achieve and, hypothetically, if they were reached, then I would have no issue retiring the character. Other times the character didn't really have any goals beyond something vague like "get rich" and, through RP, developed some goals or allegiances and I was presented with a good opportunity to retire the character in a satisfying way. Louis-Henri was like that. I personally like my characters to have endings and at least like to have an idea of where they're going, storywise.

The Bard Darkharp, and The End, seemingly are not compatible.

Not really, Having played on a world where a few times the player base were forced to make new characters.
Marister was one. I brought the concept here and he has grown and is on the path I had originally planned.
Like others have said, if an ending presents itself then possibly. If I get bored I will play another of my characters.

An ending, no, I like to leave it open ended.
Characters on FRC start at level 1. To me this implies they have very little experience of the world before Cormyr, and I tend to think of them as mostly a blank state. That being said, it doesn't preclude backstory hooks and goals.
Setting a character's "central tension" and giving them issues they want to resolve or goals they wish to accomplish helps driving their character development throughout their FRC lifetime. Of course, such goals will change due to the interaction with the world and with other PCs.
I do feel some characters reach the end of their "character arc" at some point. While there are endless stories to be played, it is still perhaps the best course of action for them to retire at this point.

So some of the characters I play on FRC are -alternate- versions of PnP characters I play or have played over the years. These characters are usually more fleshed out than the ones I have created for NWN, simply because for the most part they have been around for a longer period of time. I know, at least loosely, what their endings are and I might try to steer them towards that, but I consider my NWN/FRC characters to be, as I said, alternate versions of them, so really anything goes. There are two characters that I created specifically for NWN, one of whom I do have an ending in mind, and one who I don't. The one I don't is the one who exists on FRC.

My goal for Norah is making it to Constal rank in the Purple Dragons at least, so two more to go. Maybe earning a few more medals, and a very unlikely knighthood.
She has no defined end either. She could go missing or killed in action after a particularly tough suicide mission or she could retire quietly too.

I do not. I more or less depend on interaction with other pcs and respond to it. I even went so far as to alter the feats and build my main was going to use in order to respond to the way things have gone. In my TT games things like that will dictate certain choices as well. Essentially I try to adapt to the events that come upon me.

Furin and Ting will be sitting in their balcony overlooking Frubo's stage heckling the "acts". Tings the tall one! styxx

Short answer: No
Long answer: Not as long as there's still room for character development, since my characters don't have any sort of "career path" defined at this point.

I didn't start Kira with an ending planned.
However, if she manages to attain status as a demi-goddess (complete with being canonized on FRC with her own portfolio, holy symbol, dogma, and domains), acting as a subordinate to Sharess, that would be pretty good for an ending. ;-)
She's nowhere near that goal though.

imo the best stories are told and not written. For me, I like my story to unfold in interaction with other players and the world. So a new character gets a set of defects and traits with a couple of ideas about who they are and what they want t do. After that I let them loose and try not to "control" how they behave, I allow my RP to be influenced by your RP, and by the by I would mention that DM interaction especially early on can be a great hook for character development...
So no I don't know the end but I am always willing to end a character

One of my characters will most likely end by PVP battle. Playing the character is just one big, long act of providing someone with the reason.
