I've been doing a lot of walking from city to city rather than taking the caravan or teleporting. However, this provides a unique RP challenge. How do I tell someone I saw yesterday that I walked from VR to Arabel in the span of less than 24 hours? Do I pretend I didn't? We already sort of ignore the RP consequences of instantaneous caravan travel taking us from one end of Cormyr to the other. Any clever ducks out there want to suggest how I could rp this travel, other than just whistling nonchalantly and pretending I didn't do it?

“People assume that time is a strict progression from cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff.” - Doctor Who
Meaning to mostly hand wave it. Similiar issues on other servers like Wheel of Time where as well as magical ways (maps) there was overland representing 100s or 1000s of mile/km. Yet those who rp talking will slow down. The magical way talking people could arrive after the overland no typing team.
Logistically if we implementented realistic travel times most of our play time would be on the road.
Your character can certainly refer to days/weeks travelled. More a hoping people clue in with you to roll with it.
You could also steer the conversation, at least your side, away from direct referenes. Like instead of saying you just came from Arabel to say... I was just at this nearby cottage, wonderful cheese they have there.
Though really... its one of the hand wavey things for online play.

Hey Circle,
In situations like yours I keep things pretty vague when it comes to travel time or I reference the travel distance instead of the time it took.

I played on a server where a party could board one caravan or a boat as a group. You actually sat inside the van or boat. The trip was timed as to how long it would take to get from point a to point b.
Great rp was had. Would it cut down on time to get to a dungeon and do such? Yes however prior to purchasing a ticket, time was listed both in game and on forums.
Yet if you think about it caravan time if this was implemented about the same time without fighting encounters. The pw that had this however would have boats and caravans some times attacked so people could fight if they wanted.

Time is an illusion. The calendar only changes once every 6 days anyhow.

There are certain scenarios where players need to use suspension of disbelief: intentional disregard of logic in order to believe something for the sake of enjoyment.
Your PCs can't mechanically jump either but that doesn't mean you have to RP your feet glued to the ground.

The way I do it is like Grizwald said, be vague. Instead of saying 'yesterday I...' you can say 'recently...' or 'The other day..' etc.

Tbh with the limits of time I have balancing work the, the game, and other hobbies, plus working with three alts who are part of teams I don't even give that much thought.

The way I do it is like Grizwald said, be vague. Instead of saying 'yesterday I...' you can say 'recently...' or 'The other day..' etc. Sure, but the issue might arise in situations when I saw the person yesterday. Them: "Hey, how has it been?" Me: "Oh, pretty good. I walked from Arabel to Suzail." Them: "Uh... Wow, that's a lot of distance to cover, since we just saw each other earlier today." Normally, people don't mention it, but that's because I tend to simply not talk about it. It seems to be the most obvious solution, but its also the least satisfying, since I can't really rp how much the character travels from city to city by foot rather than caravan or teleport, as is the norm.

AH.... Bentin's Shoes There's your answer. Refer to many things other than the time frame. How your shoes are wearing out... the variety of trees seen... the changes in farms... the color of the fall trees.... how the snow glistened at a place... the things a long distance traveler embraces from their journey... flowers left at marker... the fruit trees outside Valkur's Roar... the things seen or touched. Very rarely do long distance travellers say "did another 100 km today" unless they are fund raising or some intense joggers.

Since the server advances an hour every 10 minutes, 24 hours in real life is 6 days in game time. That's still pushing it for Arabel to VR (unless you take the tree gate from Eveningstar to Suzail and a boat from there to VR), but it's somewhat more feasible.

When immersion breaks due to mechanics like this, I see this as an opening for a cheeky meta joke. Unhelpful examples to the dialogue above: - Time flies when you're having fun. - Today? How is that possible? There must be something amiss! - I am trying this new fad called, uh, jogging. I believe it's 'jogging' or 'yogging.' it might be a soft 'j'. I'm not sure but apparently you just run for an extended period of time! It's supposed to be wild.

When somebody asks how you managed to walk that distance in a day...
