So, I've discovered the Steam controller settings and have tried to create the ultimate controller set up for NWN.
Has anyone else tried this?

Mouse + keyboard shortcuts is superior to controller, I find.

How would targeting even work with a controller? I use the Logitech G600 MMO Gaming Mouse for $25 (USD) with 24 quick slots at my thumbs disposal. I never have to touch my keyboard in combat, and it has a 6ft cable if you need that kind of distance btwn your Mouse and computer. The RGB cycling is nice too

Mouse and keyboard is def superior.
But for just some casual fun times, it's not that bad.
So I'm using a basic Xbox controller. Set up the left trigger to ctrl and right trigger to shift. X, Y, A, B set as F1-4 and F5-8 when the joystick is pressed down. The cross pad is set to F9-12. Left joystick does the movement keys. Right joystick moves the mouse cursor. Left grip button is right mouse click and right grip is the left mouse click.
That's the basics. Certain things have double purposing if a button is held down so I've managed to get complete control of the camera, mouse, and all the hotkeys.
I did the crypts with Andros last night to test it out in action and it works pretty good. I've got. Touchscreen laptop too which helps if a crutch is needed in the mouse department but didn't need to use it during that run.
