Hello there everyone. I just thought this would be a good time to introduce myself. Some of you may have already met one or more of my characters in game, but this is my first posting here on these forums. I've played here a few weeks now, and so far I like what I've experienced, so I thought I would post a little about myself and how I play. Please don't take this as an attempt to bash anyone else's' playing styles. That's not my intention here. I know that everyone plays the game differently, and frankly, as long as your style isn't simply to be a jerk to everyone you meet, then I have no problems with it whatsoever. I figured it would be good to speak a little about my style of playing though. That way people know before running into one of my characters whether or not our styles will mesh, and whether or not I'm the kind of person they wish to roleplay with.
I enjoy two main things in NWN... roleplaying and exploring. I think the roleplaying part is pretty self-explanatory. A few things I don't like in my roleplay though... excessive, unnecessary drama, and forced roleplay. When faced with either of these situations, don't be surprised if my character finds a reason to be somewhere else at that moment. As for the exploring part, I don't mean blasting through every area to find where the best loot and XP are. I mean actual exploring. Seeing what is beyond the next hill, through the next door, just around the next bend, etc, etc. That's how I am in real life, and it's something I enjoy in game as well. I love nothing better than to experience the feel for new areas and new situations. Granted, it gets me into a lot of trouble, but I accept that. I try to avoid going to the same areas I've already been to, unless there is a specific reason, such as a roleplaying situation, or in the event that I was unable to explore the entire place when I was there last. Hmm... what else? Oh yes... running.
If you ever see one of my characters running, chances are that there is something big, mean, and nasty chasing them. I don't like running unless it is absolutely necessary. To me, you miss too much of the game by running around. Even when I'm alone, I'm walking. If I'm with people, I'm walking. If we're in a group together, and you just like to run... I'm walking. I think I've said enough about that.
I'm also not terribly concerned about treasure or XP. If you are trying to entice one of my characters to travel with yours, telling them that "they'll get lots of loot and experience" will pretty much assure that they are not going to go with you. Sure, treasure is nice to have, and gaining levels means more opportunity to explore new places, but I'm not one of those folks who wants to be 40th level in a month or two... or a year, for that matter. Also, as long as I have enough treasure to buy a room at an inn to rest, or purchase my next meal, I'm not going to be terribly concerned with that either.
Lastly, I'm not able to play every day, or for hours at a time when I do get the chance to log on. I have a family that contains a young child (just turned 2 last month), so there are times when I will need to go AFK without any notice. I try to give notice to anyone I'm traveling with, and if I anticipate being away for more than a minute or two, I make every attempt to log off, but that's not always possible. I think anyone that has had to deal with a hyperactive two year old will understand. I promise I won't log off in combat during those situations... I'll die if need be while AFK, respawn when I can get back to the game, return to the world, THEN log off if I have to. Along these lines, if at any time, it seems like my character is blowing yours off, or doesn't seem to want to interact, it probably means I anticipate having to leave soon. I'll try to send you a tell, but please don't get offended if I can't manage to do so before leaving.
Guess that's about it for my long-winded introduction. Hopefully this didn't offend too many people, or scare you away from roleplaying with me. If not, I can't wait to meet some more of you in game and have good times roleplaying and exploring!! ;D
