Some already know but I felt I should post. If I have seemed kinda spacey, short or hyper it is due to stress. I am trying to face things calmly.
My mother was just diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. She will have tests t see if operating or chemo will be better.
I have never smoked but she did. I encourage all who are smoking try and kick the habit.

I just noticed this thread. As a fellow FRC:er with a gravely ill mother, my thoughts are with you.

A slight complication. Yesterday after the biopsy, during the waiting time my mother hemorrhaged though not too severely. I am not sure how long she will be in the hospital.

Thanks for the warning, Animayhem. I know how it feels, having lost both of my parents to cancer myself. I hope for the best. Nowadays they have way more possiblities than in earlier days. So be hopeful and positive. Here maybe a funny story. Maybe cheers you up: Back in the 80s here in Germany teenagers thought it was cool to smoke. It was kinda group compulsion, even more young people started to smoke. They tried to make me do it, too at school. Gave me one of the strongest cigarette sorts ..... ....and I found it disgusting! I never understood what is cool about breathing dried leaves through one's lungs.^^ So it remained a first and only try. That taste of burnt tobacco alone....yuck! It was so gross and impossible for me I never started to smoke and I was proud of it. I was a rebell against smoking and I still don't smoke. Animayhem, hang in there. I'm here for you, too. *Hugs*

Well my mother has a very aggressive type. If she does not get treatment then nine months on the outside. However she is going for treatment and has an appointment monday. She will be combining modern and natural. She has an appointment with a naturapath tomorrow who also are experienced in treating cancers naturally.

A slight setback. The person my mother saw yesterday mentioned that what could be used to treat her , considering the stage it is in, would not really help her quality of life. He gave her some others for second opinions and she has other names. Granted it was not what we wanted to here, but kudos to the doctor for telling her upfront rather than having her go through it and say oops, it is not working.

My mother received positive news. She is eligible to have the extreme low dose radiation chemo therapy. She will have one session for four hours. The treatment should reduce the small cancer in her left lung and right breast as well as the larger tumor in her right lung. She will be using assisted oxygen for awhile. It is hoped the treatment will greatly reduce her discomfort and reliance on oxygen.
I wish to thank everyone for their support.

My mother will be going with a very slow and low dose chemo. Her first session is april third and will last about five hours. If the therapy sessions work it will greatly reduce the tunor cells while minimizing damage to healthy ones.

My mother's first therapy session went well. She will have another on Monday. Not sure yet when results will be known.

My mother has had three sessions now and has not had any side effects. She has a portable oxygen machine if she needs it. She sounds better after her sixth or eighth treatment, they will do another catscan to check the sizes of the tumors.

Apologies for short stay . My mother was admitted to the hospital today. Stomach infection and slight perforations. They are trying to flush out the infection.
Cause is unknown.

Her immune system is such that she can not have anymore chemo treatments. It is hoped that maybe the ones she had did shrink some of the mass. In order to "starve" the infection she is only able to eat ice cubes and cold water. They are giving her continual IV's of dextrose, potassium and the antibiotic. He vitals look good and is off the heavy breathing machine and is using the nasal cannula respirator. She was sitting up and alert. Once the infection is gone then they will see what options if any there for alternative treatment.

Really hope things get better. It’s rough watching loved ones deal with declining health and being able to only offer comfort. I’ll keep you and your family in my prayers.

I visited my mother today. They will keep he into the hospital until at least Sunday. The infection has not decreased much. They are not concerned about the cancer. If she heals from the infection and stabilizes, they will have decisions to make. Stay in the hospital, go into palliative care, hospice, home with some medical equipment and or husband trained to use such or just home. I told her I supported whatever they decide.
