Hiya everyone. I'm a new player here and have been on for only a few days, but I have been impressed with what I have seen so far. I have played and DM'ed PnP for years and I have been playing this game since it first came out.
I am a player that has been looking for a good RP server for quite some time. Others that I have been on have had their share of problems, like cliquey RP, serious meta-gaming, things that are best done on a social server, players that think they have the right to have a server bend over backwards to accommodate them (and only them) and lots of non-RP'ing power gamers running around on RP servers. I have been on Cormyr only a few days, but so far I have seen nothing like that here and I have been included in any on-going RP that has been happening around my char. The RP I have seen so far has been player-driven and has also been well done.
I have a few questions about this server:
1) Are there ongoing campaigns put on by the DM's, or is the RP just player-driven?
2) Are there XP rewards for RP?
If I think of anymore questions, I will post them
;D

1) Yes and yes. There are some story lines that we make up that go on for a while, but at the same time, there's a lot of player-created quests and story lines. Sometimes, they're both one and the same when we DMs feel like mingling with you mortals. 2) YES! While each DM may appear to have different ideas on what makes good rp, 99% of the time, if they think you've deserved it, you'll get. That other 1% just happens to be the few times a DM is not on or around. Oh yeah... And welcome to the server!!

From one newbie to another - Hey there.
XP for RP - a big yes.
And just because you think you're alone, don't assume it. You never know when you're being watched.
I'm always IC even when I'm traveling alone and suddenly I'll get hit with rp xp or an npc will respond to my character. Those times are awesome and really help make this a great server to play on.

Your words are true Shanara. I always take the time to nod to an NPC, or cough when I find Torgeir in some gas, or dip his head into the water jetting out from the side of the cliff to cool himself off even if I am alone. I didn't even know DM's would give you xp for that too and was amazed the first time it happened to me. Hope you like it here.

I figure this is as good a place as any... starting another newb thread is, well... noobish. HCM here, I just joined the forums and made a sort-of dummy pc last night to get a feel for the server. I am hoping to getting in some serious time in the next few weeks, and I have a couple questions for anyone with answers:
1. Upon being ported to the realms, I was dumped in some rat-infested hell-hole of an inn, and unsurprisingly, I found no one else there. Where is a good place to cross paths with other PCs? Particular hangouts, etc. I'm eager to get into some RP right away, if possible, and last night I couldn't find a single soul.
2. I'd like a quicky explanation on how hide/move and true seeing work here, as I've seen all sorts of implementations. So far it seems like weak creatures have very low spot/listen, so I imagine this progresses as creature level increases. Does TS automatically spot PCs, or give points to spot/listen?
3. Can I have a +10 hackmaster? And a cookie?
That's all chaps, hope to see everyone on the flip side. -HCM

It usually is packed with folks but it's currently undergoing some renovations after a recent DM event (and most players are staying away from it to keep it consistent with RP). The Inn should be up and running soon.

True Seeing owns your soul. Seriously though, if you aren't behind something, or emoting crawling through the grass, you should be seen, True Seeing or not, successful Spot check or not. Hide+Move Silently is not Invisibility. (Even HiPS is not Invisibility.) If you're in stealth, take into consideration what you're using for cover. People using True Seeing *SHOULD* also take into consideration that it does not grant the ability to see through solid objects, so if a character is genuinely blocked from your view, you should not become instantly aware of them. The engine-wise behaviour of True Seeing in the server is not changed from default NWN behaviour, however.

I know exactly what you mean by considering your surroundings... I was in the situation once of hiding nicely behind a wall, listening to a conversation and came out of stealth mode ... only to hear one PC remark "who is that?" When you play any game from a top-down-angle perspective it is very easy to gloss over things like that and not notice the unintentional metagaming. With that said, I can't wait until I 'hear' some guy run by me invisible, decked out in full plate. Yes, that was a joke. We can hope and pray that for NWN2 they'll put in the sound of chainmail clinking and the scrape of platemail while walking, but I doubt it. Thanks again for the replies, DM crew.
