Judgment in the Trial of Triadic Faithful
On Marpenoth <Oct> 27, 1377 a Trial of Faith brought forth by Sir Edthin Vidry of the Knights of the Merciful Sword and presided over by Holy Justice Desdemona Rand of the Fortress of the faithful against Grandmaster Velisario Chrysosnomos, The Order of the Divine Resurrection, and the Temple of the Defenders was concluded.
The charges brought forth by Sir Edthin Vidry are as follows:
1. Against Grandmaster Velisario Chrysonomos
-Gross conduct unbecoming a paladin.
-In his relationship and dealing with priestess Melinda Heartfire of Sune.
-Placing the safety of priestess Melinda Heartfire of Sune at risk.
-Exhibiting disregard and disrespect to local authority.
-Mishandling of the Penance of Duty with the Church of Sune
-Abuse of Power in making unilateral decisions for the Order of the Triadic Resurrection
-Acting on personal vendetta
-Deceit
2. Against the Triadic Order of the Divine Resurrection
-Failure to correct the actions of Grandmaster Velisario Chrysonomos
-Refusal to recognize corruption
3. Against the Temple of the Defenders, Suzail
-Failure to correct the actions of Grandmaster Velisario Chrysonomos
-Refusal to recognize corruption.
Holy Justice Desdomona Rand's judgment to Grandmaster Velisario Chrysosnomos as per the transcript of the court:
"Grandmaster Velisario. The Justice of Tyr finds you in need of improvement. Communication was strained between the Order you've led and the faith of Sune. It is deeply troubling that one of your templars behaved in a truly threatening way which impacted the perception of your Order to Priestess Heartfire. It is troubling that you were unaware of the behavior of your Templar. It is troubling that communication failed between your Order and the Temple of Sune which may have had sincere concerns to share with you. The reasons why do not matter. Small things have been allowed to impede wisdom, cooperation, and service. You come to the Triadic Order from Torm's faith. The heart of Torm's faith is service. A paladin is an example that people without the gift look to. The task set before a paladin is very high. The task set before a leader of paladins is even higher. People look to you and will scrutinize to see how close to the mark of the ideals you uphold you truly come. They will judge you harshly and unfairly and they will judge your faith by what you do.The Triad is the example of good, just, and true society to the world. We are the light on the mountain for those in the valley to look to. We must shine brightly and ever be in pursuit of the elusive goal of perfection. Perfection is not superiority. Perfection is not rule. Perfection is being truly good. Truly just. The blend of all that is best in men and women. That is your charge Grandmaster by your gifts as a paladin and by the blessings you have received to form and lead your Order. To lead, one must serve those he leads. He must place himself and his needs and wants last. The needs of those who place faith in you and follow must come first. Salvation may be found in service. Let me hear you speak the words of Torm. You are a young man with great responsibility on your shoulders. May command never come easily to you. May it always require great deliberation, prayer, and meditation. May your boots always remain firmly planted on the ground, even as you reach for the light above. Your penance shall be three labors to the Church of Sune. The Church of Sune shall name the labors and you shall do your utmost to fulfill them. Priestesses, I ask you to choose the labors wisely, to ease the tension between your faiths and not to abuse the sentiment of thise penance. Let there be mending between the faiths of Sune and the Triad in Cormyr."
Holy Justice Desdemona Rand's judgment to the Triadic Order of the Divine Resurrection as per the transcript of the court:
"Marshal Holance. You stand here in place of the Triadic Order. The Order failed to control the behavior of Templar Adeodatus and the Order allowed the tensions between the faiths to persist. Those without the Order had difficulty being heard, and communicating with the Order. The left hand did not know what the right hand was doing. You are charged to establish the responsibility of the Order to hear, pay heed to, and respond to grievances. I fully understand that some grievances are petty and spiteful. Others however are sincere. To discern one from the other one must listen and consider. The grievance must be heard. You are to appoint one among your Order, excluding the Grandmaster, to be the Recipient of Grievances. An open channel made known to the people of the kingdom you serve. A name and a face that those with grievances can go to and know that they will be heard. This person must share all grievances voiced with the Order in council and all grievances must be discussed and remedy agree upon. You have titles: Marshal, Chaplain, Standard-Bearer. One of you must also be the Bearer of Grievances of any who wish to lay them at your feet and with humble hearts consider them earnestly. Before the court swear that you shall establish this office within your Order and make it known to the Kingdom. Your Order will be accountable to the people you serve. The Bearer of Grievances must give voice to those with complaint. Further on accountability, the Order must have a mechanism to check the Grandmaster's authority should the need arise. Not something taken lightly but there must be a check and balance. We must remain accountable. Swear before the court that you shall lead the Order in establishing a process whereby the Grandmaster's commands may be overridden if necessary. This process must be shared with HOly justice Bers who must agree that it is adequate. Swear that you accept this task. Grandmaster, know that this check is not against Velisario Chrysosnomos. This check is against the office you hold as Grandmaster, so that any who hold the office over the course of the Order's existance shall be held responsible."
Holy Justice Desdemona Rand's judgment to the Temple of the Defenders as per the transcript of the court:
"You have gotten off easily, as the faithful of Tyr and Torm have served far away Orders and Temples. That is about to change. You shall continue to mentor all of these young people, Accused and Accusor alike, so long as they will tolerate your counsel. Further, I'm aware that the Triadic Order was charged to make a study of law as they lack Tyrran membership. Your temple will provide them resources and guidance in matters of law until they develop their own Tyrran brothers and sisters. I hope that this hearing has provided a learning experience for the Order."
Holy Justice Desdemona Rand's judgment to Sir Edthin Vidry as per the transcript of the court:
"Sir Edthin. Your convictions are strong but you have other emotions of strength. I liken you to a bull charging at the color red. You lose perspective quickly. You shall be accountable for you actions. You are now placed under the authority of the Temple of the Defenders and your superior is Holy Justice Bers. You are a Knight-Errant of the Order of the Merciful Sword assigned to serve the Temple of the Defenders in Suzail. Further, you shall offer your advice and legal council to the Triadic Order according to their need until they establish Tyrran membership of their own. Learn from one another, sharpen one another. Recognize that none of us are perfect and growth is the product of hard work and wisdom over time. It is much more difficult to create and raise up, than to tear down and destroy."
Holy Justice Desdemona Rand's charge to all present who serve the Triad as per the transcript of the court:
"I charge all here who serve the Triad to seek improvement and growth rather than condemnation of one another. The former is a far more difficult road."
Statement from the Triadic Order of the Divine Resurrection:
The charges placed against Grandmaster Velisario Chrysosnomos of the Triadic Order of the Divine Resurrection by Knights-Errant Edthin Vidry were successfully rebutted. The Order accepts responsibility in the failure of communication with the Sunite Temple though the Penance of Duty with the Church of Sune was not mishandled. Correspondence was made through the proper channels and although diplomacy failed, to imply a mishandling of the task is a jump from point A to C without reaching B first. Mistrust between the Order and Priestess Melinda "Kiki" Heartfire was found to be linked to a situation in which former templar, Adeodatus Abalant Dominic, engaged in what was perceived to be threatening behavior by the aforementioned priestess. The event was not reported to the Order by either party and was only made known to the Order at the time of the trial. Adeodatus Dominic resigned from the ranks of the Order roughly three weeks before the offer of the Debt of Persecution was extended to the Sunite Temple when being reprimanded on another issue regarding the Sunite priestess. Mistrust was further exacerbated by discord among both parties in which legitimate concerns were not heard.
The charges placed against the membership of the Triadic Order of the Divine Resurrection were also unfounded. As no corruption was found on the part of Grandmaster Velisario Chrysosnomos, the membership of the Order cannot be found guilty of a charges linked on the content thereof. The court did not find Grandmaster Velisario Chrysosnomos' own actions in need of correction and thus, the membership of the Order cannot be found guilty of a charge linked on the content thereof.
To comply with the judgment and wisdom imparted by Holy Justice Desdemona Rand, the Divine Resurrection has assigned the duty of Grievance Bearer to the position of Standard-Bearer. The title is currently held by Templar Armias Arterian. The governing structure of the Order has also been publicized stating the Grandmaster's seat is a first among equals. Matters are voted on by a council of 5 where in the case of a tie, the scales are tipped by the Grandmaster's vote. Appeals may be made as well as topics and solutions being open to debate.
Grandmaster Velisario Chrysosnomos approached Priestess Miranda of the Sunite Temple regarding the three labors on Marpenoth 30, 1377 expressing willingness and preparedness to accept the three labors. As of this posting, Grandmaster Chrysosnomos along with Chaplain Henrik Dove, Sunite clergy Justian Vaelren and Melinda Heartfire have begun discussions of the three labors, one of which has since been agreed upon.
