The guard stood like a statue, staring blankly ahead, sorting though the chaos of thoughts and emotions. Over the past two hours he had easily determined today to be the worst day of his life. The dead littered the streets and at least a hundred more were, so far, unaccounted for. People he had known for years, people he had cared for as family, had been put to the sword at his side with nothing more he could do. No training could prepare anyone for the grief of this lost battle and for the next hour the guard replayed the grisly scenes through his mind, hardly focusing on anything out ahead of him, towards the King's.
Sometime just after this hour had passed, the guard's body was once again suddenly forced into an extremely jarring situation. At nearly the exact same instant, his brain tried to both process far too much information and simultaneously shut down, while his heart suffered a similar reaction. The result was to just stand there, still, for a few moments. After those moments passed and the ability to hope he had gone crazy was regained he didn't waste the opportunity and promptly started hoping. By this time the red dragon who had now landed about 150 paces away was offloading its rider. It wasn't until she was on her own two feet that the guard recognised the need to do more than he currently was.
By the time the woman reached the gates the guard along with two others were attentively awaiting her, weapons drawn. When the guards made it obvious they were not going to simply let her pass she abruptly stopped and offered a smile. Snow-white gloves with emeralds around the wrist raised up to brush her hood back, offering brown eyes, dark eye-makeup and a face of nearly unnaturally flawless skin.
"My name is Zodika, I am here in service, not harm."
After a slight pause, the guards looked to each other then stepped aside, offering passage to the gate.
As she passed she paused and offered over her shoulder, "I congratulate you both for one of the best days of your lives. To think so many died and you survived; the chances were slim at best. Nothing you could ever train for will teach you to endure life as this day has. If you wish aid in understanding your loss, you only need ask."
With that she continued through the gates leaving the guards to consider her words as they wished. The red dragon soon after lifted off and headed over the city and out over the Wyvernwater.

Inside the city, Zodika would seek out the badly injured. She would trade uncomfortable and painful, yet potent healing for prayers or other tithes but only to those left crippled and unable to perform their duties. The healing would return them to a state to be able to perform their services far sooner but not leave them fully recovered.
