I'm sure it varies a lot, but I'm not sure around what age a (Moon) Elf would be physically and mentally competent to go out into the world on their own.

Player's Guide to Faerun has a random starting age table that indicates elf (any) adulthood is reached at 110 years.
The random starting age for an elf with a simple class is 110+4d6 years.
The random starting age for an elf with a moderate class is 110+6d6 years.
The random starting age for an elf with a complex class is 110+10d6 years.
Simple classes include: barbarian, rogue, and sorcerer Moderate classes include: bard, fighter, paladin, and ranger Complex classes include: cleric, druid, monk, and wizard
While adulthood is reached at the same time for any elf, Sun Elves don't reach other age categories until later. Sun elves reach middle age until 210 years while other elves reach middle age at 175 years. Sun elves reach Old category at 315 years while other elves reach Old at 263 years. Sun elves reach Venerable age at 420 years, while other elves reach Venerable age at 350 years. Sun elf Maximum Age is 420+6d% years while other elves reach Maximum Age at 350+4d% years.
================================================
For a comparison, human adulthood is reached at 15 years. For simple classes add +1d4, for moderate classes add +1d6, and for complex classes add +2d6.

I can`t cite the source off the top of my head, but from my previous study on elven lore I seem to recall that elven families don`t function in the same manner as human ones typically do - instead rather children often move about the community as they grow to take in different learning experiences and environments.
This might be from the complete book of elves which I highly recommend as a read to any elf player (so long as they remember that standard dnd elves and faerunian elves share different height and weight tables - FR elves being as tall as humans typically rather than short, with the exception of drow)
