Contains some spoilers of a past event, the fight between Salina and Alora.

Salina sits on the floor of her cell, absentmindedly tossing some dice off the wall, lost in her thoughts, her tea and toast sitting barely touched beside her. She had dueled Alora, but didn't remember any of it. From what some of her friends told her, certain things just didn't add up. She didn't seem to have prepared many of the counterspells she normally would have, and then ran after Alora into her cloud of darkness. She also apparently never cast a death spell, her signature. And then they both died...at the same time! How was that managed? It was almost as if...she wanted this outcome. Not to mention the fact that she had openly challenged Alora in public and in Gaunt of all places, knowing that she was a fugitive.
"It's like I wanted to be caught," she mused.
That part she did somewhat understand. She had tired of the running, the hiding, the disguising. She knew it couldn't go on forever. Maybe fighting Alora was the excuse she needed to put an end to all of it, one way or another. Did she feel guilt for her past sins? Yes, for some of it. But more, it was just that she wanted to put everything behind her. Only now, it looked like there was no future ahead of her. Only a date with the guillotine. Salina gave a little shudder, knowing that the hour approached. None of her clever barbs would save her now.
Maybe she didn't want to be saved. Maybe Salina's destiny lay beyond death. She always believed that death wasn't truly an end. But she also knew she was lying if she said she wasn't just a little afraid. Survival is a strong instinct in any race, including elves.
Salina gave a little sigh and tossed the dice again.
