General Personality:
Avaniel is the embodiment of the typical traveling sorcerer, a mysterious host of power who enjoys a good ale and tale. Having been gifted with an astounding intellect, the grown man has an IQ that far surpasses many around him, but his dislike for cocky attitudes and ego have lead him to live in the boundaries of the norm. Avaniel strongly dislikes those of the evil nature, and goblins. Orcs and goblinoid creatures have always been a part of his list since the first time he met one, and he still holds a childish grudge against them. Though there are things that he dislikes, Avaniel is quite the positive person, being an optimist at nearly every situation that arises, looking at the bright side to everything, except goblins. He spends most of his time traveling throughout the lands, but due to the many conflicts lately, he has been seen staying in one area for a longer period of time than normal, sticking to the taverns and inns to pick up on the latest gossip. He's a wise helper at heart, and avoids conflict when he can.

PROLOGUE: rising tides
The ocean seemed to grasp at the ship. It's waves crashed and tackled at it and it's crew, tossing men overboard and sending barrels left and right. The captain spat out orders, yet the screaming storm stilled his tongue, refusing to let a single sound pass through it. All hope was lost, and the ship sank, claimed by the sea, and all it's cruelty. What is the importance of the sinking of this ship you may ask? Well, I shall tell you, for this ship is but the prologue of my story. It is the ending of my past, and the beginning of my future. The rising tides claimed all that I knew, and left me for dead, yet I survived, and this is my tale.
CHAPTER ONE: ripples in the water
I was born in the caravan capital of Amn, Crimmor. Each passing day as I grew, I would count the traders and travelers that would pass through our metropolis of a city. I got to the point where in my young imagination, I had to make up my own numbers to continue the number that never seemed to end. Each day was warm and peaceful, and I awoke to the sound of my mother's beautiful voice. My father would playfully lift me out of bed, and toss me in the air. As I grew older, we lost the time for playful tossing, and books seemed to claim our childish shenanigans.
Mother never changed. She would start the morning by singing a wonderful tune each and every day, making the lyrics up as she went by. She could sing a song about everything that she saw, whither it be a caravan full of chickens, or two orcs arguing over the price of clothing. Her voice could light up even the darkest of corridors, and silence all those around her in awe. I loved my mother, and to this very day, I still do.
Father was a constant challenge. Not that he was a rude person or that he would argue with everything I said, oh no. He would test me with riddles and rhymes, pushing me further and further to grow up to be the man I am today. Books replaced wooden swords, and magical stories conquered my imagination. I embraced the reality, and threw aside fiction. Real life was my fairytale, and the boredom was swallowed up by adventure. Each day, my father and I would venture off into the market, and we would barter and haggle whatever we could get out of the caravans. We'd travel outside the city, and take notes on the weather and trees. I'd spot a deer every now and then, and he'd trace a picture of it, giving me a pat on the back as I smiled.
Life was wondrous, but as is all childhoods. There comes a time when all children must grow up, and that's the sad truth of it all. My constant teaching stole my childhood away from me, and I'd combat the rogue within my mind, trying to best him in swordplay, but he'd parry and riposte, sending me to the ground wounded and afraid. I'd attempt to strike him with an arrow, but my aim was never as true as his speed, and he'd match the arrow with half the effort, and I'd miss every time. Magic was my final calling, and even then, he'd interrupt my incantations, finally escaping with my childhood. Oh how I wish I could have bested that rogue, and how I could have spent more time being the me that I was, instead of the me that I am. Such things, however, must be embraced, and we must all face the truth. We all grow up, sooner or later.
So here I am, sitting in this inn, writing about my past grief. There's no use hiding it. Any man who comes up to me can see it in my eyes. They can see the emptiness, and the disappointment. That is why I cover my eyes, and allow them to see my smirk, for a smirk can be very misleading. From that, they see my joy, and my triumph. I shall not bother another with my sorrow, but instead uplift them with my pride. Smiles, misleading as they are, are as contagious as a yawn, and they pass on, never ending, until they find their way back again when you most need it.
