first things first...this is my 101st post! woot! lol i feel speeecial...anyways to the business at hand...i was watching marklar play a bit of the single player that exists within NWN...i've never seent his before! i didn't know it existed! haha but anyways, there was a person who, for a very heafty price, would embue your equiped weapon with magical properties!!! i was thinking that we could do the same! maybe have an evil guy that gives mean embuements like fear and other evil oriented kinds of things (maybe in the thayan enclave) then have a good guy that gives nice things like bless and what not...of course these would be low level, but i think it would be super cool if you could customize your stuff like that!!! maybe add 1d2 acid dmg or 1d4 or something, just a little touch of originality and power As a monk who doesn't use a weapon this is really useless to me, but i think it would be really cool and expensive

I will say I really like the idea, but what can you have the guy do before it becomes overpowering? I mean, if you get a weapon master with a keened blade and elemental damage, you are talking MASSIVE hits right there. Then give him something like "On Hit: Daze DC14" and you got one crazy eyez killer! I would really love to see this implemented, but i can't figure out what abilities would be not overpowering to add to the weapons. Oh and 1d2 damage ... I got a kick out of that

well there would clearly be a limit as to the number of enchantments so that would help a bit with that issue haha yeah and 1d2 dmg..helps a teeeeeeny bit, but not enough that u become 'the slayer'!!! LOL

just make it super exspensive and i think this would be awesome as well. except lets make him only available to dwarves. Now that would be so much better. But really that would be cool as i could finally have a battle axe better then plus 3 AND be able to quit kissing the dms butts for one...i mean, ummmm, hey, how are you? love what yah done with the place.

I love this idea. The first thing I am going to do is slap some Massive crits and elemental damage on Kofuji. 150 dmg per hit, here I come! Hmmm... maybe we should rethink this. heh.

Believe it or not, this is planned, or was. Maybe not what you all expect, but there is (or was) a plan in the works. It is Usurpers project, and I am not sure if it is still in active planning or not...
Anyway, you might see something like this in the future.

650th post! w00t! argh...! did i just say w00t??? i did... *shoots out his brains with a big gun* *kenny's 27th clone enters* (ya were probably woundering about the 26, huh? ;D ) as much as i like the idea, i just know it will be abused so bad from the beginning... everyone will be farming non-stop thinking "gotta earn 750.000 gp for enhancement!". if this wasn't bad enough, i can assure you there are some extremely powerful weapons in the game already... how would you like my specially awarded keen rapier to have elemental damage added to it? or massive crits? jargo will just gain an unfair advantage there... some weapons are already really wicked. there's the ice pick blade which is +3 AND has +1d6 cold damage. i haven't seen a high level rogue or bard without one of these... there's a +2 keen short sword too. add a third enhancement to any of these and it'll become really powerful... so i think this idea will need to be revieved thouroughly before it's made available. my 2 cents...

But really that would be cool as i could finally have a battle axe better then plus 3 AND be able to quit kissing the dms butts for one... I don't think we have weapons above +3 enhancement. There may be specialty mods like +4 vs. race, but +3 is pretty good. If there is +4 enhancement on FRC, I haven't seen it. I thought you were complaining this whole time because you had a +1 weapon or something.

nah, i have a plus two and know that there is a plus 3 available, i would not reallly want anything higher, just something unique. Like a battle axe of chicken slaying or something of the sorts...and yes, i really wrote that...juat something that is wholly dwarven as dwarves see their reps tied to their arms or armor. just being a rp guy and hoping for the best for my guldar and yes, i can afford the plus battle axe but the one i have now is plus two but i like it better because of how i got it and that it is a berserker axe plus two...not just a battle axe plus two.

Yes, the Drow Weaponsmith in the Elistree Rebel Camp did some nice things for weapons...in the single player game.....
Might be a bit overpowing to use him since he could enchance a blade to max of +10 enchantment, add any elemental damage at +2d6, add keen, true seeing, haste, regeneration, and spell resistance to a weapon...if I recall correctly.....
But a *very* toned down version might be nice.....

makes you wonder if padrin added all those things to his sickle, plus 10, 2d6 fire, regeneration, keen, and haste...would Gial still kick his...whats another name for a donkey?

I dont care about any of these. Except true seeing! Once that goes on a weapon I am gonna flip! But aside from that. Perhaps this wouldnt be so bad. A limit of enchantments was mentioned, but how would that be determined? By item price? Not sure how they do it in HotU, but that might not be bad. That way weapons that are already very powerful, like the ice pick and the adventurer's longsword couldn't get that much more powerful since they would already be closer to the max value. And perhaps you could only use him once, that way not everyone was adding the same abilities to their weapons. Perhaps even make it a difficult quest that the player needs to complete. And then place a token in the players inventory so they cannot upgrade any further. I still digress. Even though I have never gotten a dm item, i still like the system we have today. People get unique items based on their rp rather than how much money they can attain. Plus I still dont know what you could add to an item that wouldnt over power it. About the only thing I can think of would be +2 additional damage (fire/slashing/ice/acid ... so on and so forth).

well, making it attached to a quest would be sweet! also...if it were something you could buy you could have a really expensive option that would add +1 to your weapon to a max of 3...then the + 2 damage or whatever it would be, would be super expensive but not quite as much...as for spells...i don't mean true seeing or freaking hell ball...i mean like...lvl 1 spells...maybe at the absolute MAX lvl 2 spells...and the 'caster lvl' would be low too!!! so like..bless at a low lvl so it only lasts like a few minutes or something!!! like...these things would help a bit, but not tons! like freakin...cast implosion (20) 50 times/day...i'm saying once per day and low lvl...i think that if your a strong player you won't even want any of the crappy things lol it would be more of a mid-lvl thing because the high lvl types of ppl HAVE +3's that do 340004838 dmg per hit and such just small little things to keep things interesting, and add a spark to the fun then you could have that flaming sickle that you always wanted, see the burning ness that looks soooooo cool...but it only adds a teeeeeny bonus! ... if you critical with a +2 damage bonus...the max dmg you can get added on is like 10...if you use a scythe and have x5 crits or whatnot! lol it's just a small feature i was thinking would rock lol and if that worked well then maybe move to armor! small small enhancements...but the armor one is less attractive because you can't see the results like you would a flaming blade thanks for your time

see we don't need all the up grades. max the enchantment out at +3 so if you have a +2 item you can only buy 1 +1 upgrade. have a max of 2 upgrades you can get just like in SP except it's 3 there. and only 1 elemental type of damage. i would say get rid of true seeing, regeneration, maybe haste, and SR. make the upgrades expencive as hell, like 100k for the smallest one. so it becomes something you use when you have all the equiptment you want in FRC and are looking for a bit more power.

i personally think it's better handled individually by DMs. the DMs review your char over a longer period and think of a weapon that would fit your RP and style of play without overpowering your char.
so far i think that option has been working great, and it has really encouraged RP over farming gold because these items are mostly achieved through quests or RPing.

Im going to agree with kenny. The DM's have a better feel for the type of custom weapon or item a player gets.

i'm not sure about that that's alot of look at people and some people might not ever get anything from the dm's though i do agree with the farming.

well kenny...some of us have been here for quite a while and havn't been involved with many dm events so for some of us it might be good to have another option. And some peoples RPing goes mostly unnoticed by DM's because they arn't on for the hours of RPing

So then is the reason for this merchant, because you can't get a dm item?
And I understand that it becomes a bit nerve racking when it seems everyone else has an item but you. Trust me when I say I understand.
But if this is the reason, i think there is a better solution. Why not let the dms know,"Hey, I want to create a new bow, I am going to RP finding wood and finding a mage to enchant it. If you could watch out for it, i would appreciate it." Then the dms would know you were looking for a new weapon, and wouldn't have to just drop one on you. Or you could say,"Hey, my monk is going to go research finding an outfit of ancient lore because he heard a rumor about one." Either way, you are RPing that special weapon, and I like that the items are given for RP reasons and not because you killed a million baddies and got 1 gold from each of them.
And on another note. I have two shortswords right now, bought from merchants in the module. 1 is a ice pick, the other is a feyduster. The ice pick is +3 and does 1d6 cold damage. The feyduster is +2 and casts sleep on hit. If I could upgrade my feyduster to +3 and add +2 fire damage I would eagerly give up my ice pick to do it. Do you know how powerful a +3 weapon with on hit sleep and elemental damage would be? Or let me put it this way. In the hands of a rogue, that can either coup de grace you, or at the minimum get a sneak everytime you fall asleep?

though i wouldn't mind an increase in the DM-fun-factor the idea isn't for me, as i use bracers, not blades but i see your point, especially the one about the feyduster and whatnot lol. personally i'm not looking for a custom item at all, but when the time comes that i get a bit greedy and want plus 3 bracers that dispell on hit, give me hp regen, 2d6 elemental damage, and sleep on hit with a dc of 45 then i'll be sure to ask LOL i'm joking about the bracers btw lol

well lets put it this way...if you have over 100k, chances are you've been around long enough for a dm to notice and get to know you they may notice you dave, but so what. hroth(from my intereactions with him) was a good player and he obviousl has been around a long time, and he didn't get a DM item. BUT ANYWAYS i really don't care about not having one, i just think it's a sweet thing to have. you know spice things up. what they could do is have "socketed" items and what i mean by that is have certain weapons with the ability to upgrade. there could be 1-3 sockets on the weapon the more the higher price. that way they can still control the power of the item. is that acceptable?

Hrothgar didn't get a DM item but there were several factors involved, the greatest of which is that he never requested anything. And just requesting an item doesn't mean you will get one. However, it is important to note that Hrothgar DID get a guild house. He met all the required criteria and this was granted. Designing the guild house was FAR more time consuming than giving him a a shiney item. Anyway, the system will probably require doing like a "forge" onto the item. Players will most likely need to aquire certain items, take them to a certain place, engage in certain acts and then certain powers will be granted. That's pretty much what we have talked about regarding the system.

*thinks about what justicar says* Yeah he is right, but what good did those guild bastards do for me Dammit take back the guild house, I want my custom item!!! ;D LOL just kidding. Justicar is right, I did pay for my guild house (which is definitely better than an item). But no there are no custom items, Nirvana, associated with my guild at this time. Now perhaps in the future there may be some, but not right now. I was just stating, I know what it is like to not have a dm granted weapon. "Anyway, the system will probably require doing like a "forge" onto the item. Players will most likely need to aquire certain items, take them to a certain place, engage in certain acts and then certain powers will be granted. That's pretty much what we have talked about regarding the system." Sounds pretty quest-o-rific. I guess I shouldn't complain about the item upgrades if the dms are already cool with it. Here I come +3 feyduster with elemental damage (and maybe keen too)! ;D

if jargo had decided to use short swords from the beginning, and i'd seen the more than impressive selection of extremely powerful short swords (trust me, i've looks in alot of shops for weapons with cool properties), then i'd have bought the ice pick and never ever considered asking the DMs for anything better! think about it for a moment.... stay with me... to normal characters, +3 enhancement bonus is the best thing there is (or a +2 with some property to make it equally powerful), and once they obtain it, they feel happy. you have got... +3 enhancement bonus... and an extremely powerful property on top of it, and you never had to ask a DM for that item.... with all due respect, if anyone's gonna feel jealous, then it's anyone not using short swords who gets to watch all the rogues and bards of the server running around with the ice pick, while they settle for a +2 something... no offense, but that is my take on things as a player who never wielded a longsword or short sword. back on topic, and sorry for the rant: i like the idea justicar describes.

"DM items are great. But realize that not all players have received one, myself included. Think of them as treasured gifts tailored specifically for you, so no need to flaunt it. Sometimes it can be a bit unnerving when you see a player that has been on the server half as long as you requesting their second dm item, when you haven't even received one."
"Even though I have never gotten a dm item."
"And I understand that it becomes a bit nerve racking when it seems everyone else has an item but you. Trust me when I say I understand."
"they may notice you dave, but so what. hroth(from my intereactions with him) was a good player and he obviousl has been around a long time, and he didn't get a DM item."
"Hrothgar didn't get a DM item..."
OK. These are not quite true statements. Hrothgar was given some gear by me (well actually I had Justicar to give them to him since I was Mask at the time) because he lost several items when I shanghaied a plot of his. A couple of the items he was given can not be purchased in the mod. He could honestly say he NO LONGER has any DM given items but not that he was NEVER GIVEN any.
No offense Quad but there are to many people getting the wrong idea.
ps. I do have to admit though it wasn't hand crafted for Hrothgar just something you can't buy that I thought would go well with his character.
