I can't really explain damn, which as you can see has been released from censorship... Anyway, that's that, heh. *** Oh, but the combination of *your deity here* and damn will result in *holy frioles*

I did about another 20 NPC's last night... we should see further minor improvement today. I think I have about 100 or so left to do. The remaining are mostly easy, but I did find a cache of about 20 more difficult ones. Defining easy and difficult: some of these take about 5 minutes to convert and it's chop, chop... some have items that have to be duplicated/replaced/redone, conversations to clean up, and other stuff; these take about 10-15 minutes each, some as high as 20 minutes. Then there is the saving, changing areas, etc. Quick math will tell you I have spent a good bit of time on this, but I intend to see it all the way through. I am pretty sure we are seeing a positive impact already and I think the deeper I get on this project, the more it will help. Cheers!

Was on earlier and I was shocked that there was NO lag! There was about 14 people on and that usually causes some lag back in ye olde days Great work Justi (and the rest of the team too;)) - really appreciate the effort, blood, and sweat poured into making FRC all the more awesome.

as far as cencorbots go, i never liked the things much. sure i can understand certain words have no place in a civilized community, but bleeping it out doesn't make it unspoken... in case of my post, that was just a southpark quote. back on topic: justi i wanna offer my support but seeing how the only thing i can do is talk, then by all means if you ever want anyone who listens, just send me a tell. maybe if i wasn't so poor i'd be able to offer a more direct support...

I had a chance to knock out another 25 or so tonight. I doubt this will have a huge impact but it is better than nothing. This weekend should give me the opportunity to knock out the vast remainder... then it's on to Phase II. Phase II is going to require the assistance of some of our long time players. I will be seeking information on where creatures are spawning in copious numbers. If you see an area where you are getting any more than 5-6 creatures spawned at once, or high intensity creatures spawning in groups of 4 or more, I will want to hear about it. Now, I know we have ALOT of areas that fit this criteria... I am looking for places that seem to be major offenders, mainly. I will start another post when I am on Phase II that will address this. I will still be looking for/at suspect scripts, etc, but I am focusing on spawns now, at least for the time being. Anyway, each day gets us a little closer to moving the module forward to completion again, and closer to "perfection". Cheers!

I've noticed the NPCs (i.e., merchants) spawning upon entry of the shops and doing some very interesting things I was so amused with Juster especially that I just stood there watching him, asking him if he was feeling alright throughout . He appeared to be hunched over as if he was tired then walked around the store, hid behind a chair, then - to my amazement - opened the door to the store and walked out (and no, no DM was on - i think). Well he reappeared soon enough - and walked over to the largest set of chairs and just stood behind there for a while. Poor man I think he's getting some serious problems and in need of theraphy soon.

The worst part is that it doesn't appear to be in the scripts. It might be buried somewhere I haven't looked yet like the include files the scripts call, but I would like reports on erratic NPC behavior. I will make a new post, so hopefully I can find some common links. Cheers! Here is a link for ill behaved NPC's: frc.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=bugsandissues&action=display&thread=1128103116

I was able to knock out another 20 or so NPC's onto timers tonight for tommorows load. I found a few pockets that had eluded me, and they were some heavy lag generating NPC's too...I have resolved to keep hitting it through the weekend, at a steady pace. At this point, if I do maybe 10 a night we will be so back to normal in no time, probably a couple of weeks. I still have no idea why this didn't really catch up with us until the 1.66 patch, but I am glad it is ending. Hopefully, we will have our numbers back into the 20's to 30-ish (at any given time) player range soon. Once this project is over, I will also be promoting FRC again, so that should help too. Again, I want to thank all of the players who have kept their mouths shut while I was working on this, but most of all those of you who have been with us through the thick, and the thin. Cheers folks!

What I meant to say was that I thank all of you who have been kind enough not to yell at me while I complete the project. Anyway, I ended up doing more like 30 tonight all said. This should have yet another decent impact. Cheers!

Todays new module load is on the server right now. I will be starting the systematic elimination of the remaining free floating NPC's we have out there this weekend. By Monday, there should be one more level of lag being even less noticeable. Then I can finally start moving to perfect the module next week if all goes well.
Cheers!

Well... I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. There are about 10 areas that need to be redone, and that should take care of all the heavy stuff. There are probably still about 100 NPC's around at any given time, but the vast vast majority are eliminated.
I am going to load up a new module in about an hour or so that has another 40 reduced from the last load I spoke of above... then, this week I will work on maybe one area a day until Phase I here comes to an end. Finally.
Cheers!

I did another 10 last night for the module that is loading up right now. I got an accurate count and it looks like we have about 110 left, including Isinhold, which has just over 20. Now Isinhold is a bit of a puzzle to me. I am wondering if I should even touch it considering it is almost always inhabited and the whole purpose of this exercise is to reduce NPC's presence in "inactive" areas while no one is there. I am considering moving some of the NPC's from the exterior to the interiors in Isinhold. I would probably only keep the most necessary NPC's outside, and I will also reduce the number of animals in Isinhold. So, if you hear a cow, but don't see one, please use your imagination. Anyway, I will be working ever so diligently this week to eradicate the last of these as the hardest corner has been turned. As I dwindle the numbers to zero and start to rebuild some "trouble areas" you will definitely feel a significant impact really, really soon. Cheers!

Man... sometimes you just can't win for losing. As I knocked out another 15 or so for tommorows load, I tried another recount... seems I had left an area off last count, but I can now definitely say we just have around 120 NPC's left to throw on timers. Wow... sometimes you don't just feel as though you are working backwards, you really are! So, bad news: I thought we had 120 something of these left and after tonight would be around 100, and now we have 123 still, all counted. Good news: I only have 123 to go, and they are all ID'ed! That's actually really good because now I have a definite goal. So, I push the great promise of lag free play back yet another week... I think once we hit 50 or so in the next week it will really be time to party , but until then, I will keep plugging. Cheers folks... it's almost Phase II. ;D

Finally under 100! I reduced active NPC's by another 20 tonight and nailed the last of the "really hard" ones. The rest is a downhill battle on active NPC's.
I am still noticing severe lag spikes when there are over 12 people on the server and I will also be looking into this. There is also a probable connection issue that is due to be repaired around the 1st of November.
Slowly, surely, FRC is getting there. Just in time for NWN2.
Oh the lessons learned!

I lied, heh... I thought we really had all the major areas tackled, but I just found and started to eliminate many sporadic free floaters. Mostly they are in shops around Cormyr. I took care of Shallybrook and I know where the rest are once more, so I will be re-tabulating tomorrow. I am still certain we have under 100, but I just found more "pockets" to crawl into.
Ultimately, it's a good thing though. Once I find them, I kill them by replacing them.
I swear it's not going to be long now... of course I have said this for a while... but, I am really, really sure now! ;D

I replaced another 20 or so NPC's last night as well as reduced the number of placeables and lag causing "agents" in Isinhold. I think I just have about 50 NPC's to go, unless I find another batch of hidden ones. Once this phase of the project is completed I will be further investigating this issue by redoing some troublesome spawns and scripts.
I think the final days of this project are going to yield the most fruit as the "floating NPC's" are totally eliminated and the CPU has less and less to track.
Cheers!
