Thanks to Darkharp for starting this thread, and to him and Moulinous for all their contributions. I will be grabbing a bunch of these songs in the near future for my character to use. You're making my RP a lot easier. ;D

The Ballad of the Dreamweaver
I cast my net in the sea of night And bring back a catch of glittering dreams. Which will you have, proud lady, laughing lady? This bright one, perhaps, or that?
Gleaming silver-blue, winking at you With its own mysterious, inner light, It is so beautiful. Yet so is that one, and that, and this, too. I cannot choose. Take them all. Take them all!

The Knights of Dragon Down
Riding, riding across the plain, See them riding home again. Bright their shields, bright their chain— The Knights of Dragon Down.
They have gone where shadows creep. Their blades a bloody harvest reap. Another dragon put fore’er asleep By the Knights of Dragon Down.
On their fingers gem rings gleam. Of such baubles, the very cream Falls into the hands, in a steady stream, Of the Knights of Dragon Down.
In a dark hall a lady sits alone, Her bright eyes gleam as white as bone. Her dark spells a-hunting roam For the Knights of Dragon Down.
With cruel smile, a web she weaves. From each might, his soul she cleaves. Armored bones are all she leaves Of the Knights of Dragon Down.
Riding, riding, their skulls a-grin— Past the gates, the Knights ride in. Sorcery now their souls doth spin Of the Knights of Dragon Down.
Ladies scream at the touch of bone, As skeletal Knights come riding home. Undead now, fore’er to roam, Are the Knights of Dragon Down.
(Minstrels used to add a verse to the end of this, late at night:)
Hear them riding, nearer outside. Never sleeping, doomed to ride. There’s no place where you can hide From the Knights of Dragon Down.
-Unknown Minstrel

(taken from the unpublished mod 'Thaldigar's Tower' by Ed Greenwood)
Some of the skeleton's songs follow:
[to the tune of Song of Reproduction]
I had a little snickersnee I'd wave it all about Amid the bouncing heads and such There'd always be a shout: 'No fair! No fair! You're already dead How can we win this bout?' I hear this o'er and o'er again The years they drag on by And as I chop more fools down I start to wonder why Adventurers go riding out Fire in every eye Why do they think the world is fair And only villains die?
[to the tune of Early One Morning]
Out in the velvet night I creep to give live folks a fright They all fear my blade so bright as a-chopping heads I go Oh, scream lustily Oh, flee right trustily E'en a set o' dancin' bones appreciates a show!
[to the tune of Tit-Willow]
'Neath a tree by a river a little skull lies Rattle-hollow, rattle-hollow, rattle-hollow And he smiles at the boats as past 'im they flies Rattle-hollow, rattle-hollow, rattle-hollow And close down beside 'im are fingerbones three That drum there and drum on most impatiently "Someday soon all you sailors will be just like me!" He chatters hollow, rattle-hollow, rattle-hollow... And if you pass by there I hope you won't laugh Rattle-hollow, rattle-hollow, rattle-hollow I hates to see so stupid a fatal last gaffe Rattle-hollow, rattle-hollow, rattle-hollow That death-head's quite likely to take grave offense Fingerbones leaping down 'laugher' immense To choke you and chill you and send you down dark While the skull sits a-grinnin' just like a shark Dancin' rattle-hollow, rattle-hollow, rattle-hollow...

Somewhere east of Waterdeep lurks The Dragon Unseen. Silent now his claws they creep Rending all; Bodies fall, Watched by eyes of green Orbs of patient death, Sleepless they gleam Above slaying breath And jaws of thunder; Smashing foes under To further a bloody dream.

A Toast to Waterdeep
Here's to the City of Splendors Deep water where the edge of the sea Meets rivers of gold; all the coins ever made Flow past gods, throw some to me!

When Mages Go to War - snippet
A star rushes past, to crash upon the shore But the first of many many more Stoke the fire and stout bar the door For this is the night mages go to war.

The Opening Stanza of the "Saga of the Dragon Queller" (Sal Hotun Wyrmrever), as interpreted and annotated by Learned Rundigast, Sage of Waterdeep:
I pour mead to the All-Father for Hrjurnur, son of Hjurgen, leveler of Ranauroch, son of Ottar, Jarl of the northern wind-teeth, son of grand Annam, All Seeing, All Knowing, All Quelling, All Father — Fireheart, Mighty reaver of the wyrm's core, He who howled at the sun, He of the quenched heart, He who drowned in the river of swords,

Upsen Downs
Climb that trail Break down that door Find that tunnel and run some more Cross that bridge of fiery glow Running deeper down below Make some smiles from those frowns Ye've found the town of Upsen Downs!
Upsen Downs! Upsen Downs! Ye've found the town of Upsen Downs! Upsen Downs! Upsen Downs! Make some smiles from those frowns.
Ye've found the place o' the finest ale With arm-sized pretzels that're never stale! With big Chef Muglump and his coney stew And Master Bumble with his forty brews!
And in the holes ye can break the rock and haul it up with yer tackle and block Smelt it down and ye'll get it sold Upsen Downs's got the finest gold!
Upsen Downs! Upsen Downs! Ye've found the town of Upsen Downs! Upsen Downs! Upsen Downs! Make some smiles from those frowns.

A Song of Loss
Tall grew the trees in the hidden glade, Below the tower that was not a tower. Kept safe for eons from spell and blade, By guardians who wielded Mystra’s power.
The words that sighed through their golden leaves Had been heard in part but never whole. But the tall trees fell to the hands of thieves And Magic’s death is now their goal.
A precious circle of wizard’s skill Is the key to their sundered ground. Their home lies silent now and still Till the door in Nature’s hall is found.
The living must find that which is lost Before the world is riven, Or mortals and gods will pay the cost And lose forever the blessings given.

//Technically not a song of the Realm, but it was too good to pass up. Do Virgins Taste Better words by Randy Farran, music traditional. A dragon has come to our village today. We've asked him to leave, but he won't go away. Now he's talked to our king and they worked out a deal. No homes will he burn and no crops will he steal. Now there is but one catch, we dislike it a bunch. Twice a year he invites him a virgin to lunch. Well, we've no other choice, so the deal we'll respect. But we can't help but wonder and pause to reflect. Do virgins taste better than those who are not? Are they salty, or sweeter, more juicy or what? Do you savor them slowly? Gulp them down on the spot? Do virgins taste better than those who are not? Now we'd like to be shed you, and many have tried. But no one can get through your thick scaly hide. We hope that some day, some brave knight will come by. 'Cause we can't wait around 'til you're too fat to fly. Now you have such good taste in your women for sure, They always are pretty, they always are pure. But your notion of dining, it makes us all flinch, For your favorite entree is barbecued wench. Now we've found a solution, it works out so neat, If you insist on nothing but virgins to eat. No more will our number ever grow small, We'll simply make sure there's no virgins at all! www.thebards.net/music/lyrics/Do_Virgins_Taste_Better.shtml

OOC Can't help it, this one has gained me the most gold of all my songs.
Dragon's reply.
Now, I am a dragon. Please listen to me. For I'm misunderstood to a dreadful degree. This ecology needs me and I know my place. But I'm fighting extinction with all of my race.
Well, I came to this village to better my health Which is ever so poor, despite all my wealth. But I get no assistance and no sympathy, Just impertinent questioning shouted at me.
Yes, virgins taste better than those who are not. But my favorite snack mixed with peril is fraught. For my teeth will decay and my trim go to pot. Yes, virgins taste better than those who are not.
Well, I'm really quite kind almost all through the year. Vegetarian ways are now mine out of fear. But a birthday needs sweets as I'm sure you'll agree. And barbecued wench tastes like candy to me
As it happens our interests are almost the same. You see I'm really quite skillful at managing game. If I ate just your men, would your excess decline? Of course not, the rest would just make better time.
Now, the number of babies a woman can bear Has limits, and that's why my prunings done there. And an orphan's a sad sight and so when I much. I'm careful to eat only virgins for lunch
Rite.

I play nwn and would like to use these songs, but first my conscience makes me ask, are you the original authors, if so mind if I use them on a different game? If not, do you know how I can contact the authors?

If not, do you know how I can contact the authors? Most of the posts in this thread have been lifted from other places and have sources attached. Generally the ones that were written by players are not. (You'd have to check post-by-post to see which are which)

"The Mermaid's Kiss" - A Sea Shanty by Shard Shadowsilver
____________________________________
Well gather round lads and lasses, I'll tell you a tale of a lass with deep green lashes! Eyes the colour of a flawless sapphire, which many men sought with lust and desire, She always did escape their foolhardy advance, so don't worry: just laugh and dance! A mermaid's kiss has the power of life, and it might even happened on the Wyvernwater one night.
So pour me a rum, and I'll begin to strum! Don't try to catch a mermaid's kiss, listen up, while you are young!
Sapphire was the name of this young mermaid, and of her there was none afraid, All the seamen wished to catch a glimpse Of her blue eyes, none had seen her in the rinse, So an old sea dog Sam; He gathered a crew, and set out onto the blue, The sun on the waves caused a shimmer, and the thoughts of a mermaid made their eyes glimmer!
So pour me a rum, and I'll begin to strum! Don't try to catch a mermaid's kiss, listen up, while you are young!
At end of a fruitless search on that sunny day, All of the crew were tired and in dismay, And they began to plot against Sam. A foul plot they hatched, so they began, But as they had the Captain Sam cornered near the sail, the winds swept forth and weather seemed to prevail! there was a crack as the hull split open in twain, and to most it would seem all the mutiny was all in vain,
So pour me a rum, and I'll begin to strum! Don't try to catch a mermaid's kiss, listen up, while you are young!
Without anyone on deck near the wheel, they'd hit the reef, some men jumped overboard but with a leer the bosun took his sword from his sheath, Sam looked at the men and bequeathed a prayer to Valkur that he might get off the ship in one piece~! He dodged the murderous dogs and with a great leap, he jumped off the deck and into the deep. He struggled against the waves, and when he thought there was no hope left, a figure with a tail like a giant fish approached in the depths!
So pour me a rum, and I'll begin to strum! Don't try to catch a mermaid's kiss, listen up, while you are young!
The water filled his lungs and with his last breath, again he prayed to Valkur that he might surive the sinking wreck, Men struggled in the waves around him and drowned, The bosuns fat figure floated to the top like a great mound, And when all went black and he thought he was gone, his lungs with filled with air that as he woke on the beach alone that morn, Sapphire had exchanged life from her gills into his lung through the lip, and then carried him and left him on the shore from her grip.
So pour me a rum as I begin to strum~! Don't try to catch a mermaid's kiss, listen up, and a truth be told! there's a mermaid close to you, if like Sam you're bold, Never fear the waves of the murky depths depths of old, But the moral to the story is this: Don't go out seeking a mermaid's kiss, Because you'll get done quite dear, and in your days you'll live in fear; Of mutiny and treachery on the mast, but the mermaid might dump you for a better half!

*kicks away the shovel and wipes some sweat from his brow*
Sorry for gravedigging and not posting something usefull in this thread but I'm terribly interested in any songs/hymns/battlechants or anything similar to it towards Tempus.
Anyone aware of any songs published in regards to this?
My searches around have been pretty fruitless and eventually lead me to this forum. It seems you are my last hope!
*edit* In my searches I've come upon a mention of "Song of the Sword" in regards to it, but alas that didn't help at all.
