I posted the following on the DM Q&A. DM Ursurper suggested I post it here also for community discussion so here it is. I am wondering if the DM Q&A forum, and it being so restrictive is truly necessary? I don't mean this with any disrespect, but one the things I have always loved about FRC is the open exchange of ideas, thought, and opinions on all the various topics. I feel that this format restricts that. I understand the need for clear answers from DM's but I do miss the discussions. So is this really necessary? and here is the link to the thread, for your reading: frc.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=dmqa&action=display&thread=1141423855

i'm on the fence about this, i think justi is right, let a DM answer before any other questions are asked on the question

I think open discussion is good but to a certain extent. Some topics go on forever and never end. Topics like that is where dm's should just put there foot down and say "no, its like this". thats probably when it should be adressed as a dm question only.

I completely agree, I also thought we kind of already worked on that system. A discussion go on, everyone who wants to says there piece(maybe a few times ) then the DM's make a decision post the decision and lock the thread. On the same note I do like the idea of an area where a new player can look and get a quick idea on how things are done here.

This is more for set rules. On other topics, a person asks a question and it is often confused by other facits and comments before a DM has a chance to address the first question. This topic is for straight answers by DMs. If you think it's weird, you can always post about the topic in another thread to insure everyone gets a peace... we just want ONE topic where not everything is flamed to the nines with jokes and witty replies and other off topic stuff.

Understandable. I am not opposed to the idea. I was just wanting to state some thoughts on it. I have long enjoyed the debate on here as I have already stated, and did not want to see that go away. But I also have wanted some definitive answers on a few things. So I do understand the need for it. My thanks to all that have addressed and noted my concern

In any case, the General Discussion is still open for any questions to the DMs, players, and Mary, Jane, and Sue's cousins and their neighbors If anyone disagrees with a decision posted on the DM's Q&A section, by all means, bring it up for discussion here (no guarantees we won't strike you down, lock the thread, and grief you though )
