Well since there are so many movie buffs here and I would assume many that enjoy animation, I thought I would ask for thoughts...
For starters, I work for Walt Disney Studios... not the parks... anyway, there are 2 big releases coming out this winter for us, Chicken Little and The Chronicles of Narnia. OK I probably should say this has NOTHING to do with the company and is completely my own personal opinion/request for information and desire to hear what non-disney people are thinking about these films.
Chicken Little The first attempt at CGI animation. I personally have only seen pieces of it, but the trailer looks great. The buzz seems to be positive, but I always felt animation is about the story and very little about hand drawn versus CGI.
If you have the chance to view it in digital 3D you might check it out. I am hearing this is brand new 3D technology that is sooooo far ahead of what has been done in the past and it is a true attempt to make the film have depth rather than just create stuff that jumps out at the audience. Again I haven't seen it, so take my opinion for what its worth. I will be seeing it in 3D at the opening.
Any thoughts? Preferences as to CGI vs hand drawn?
The Chronicles of Narnia This trailer looks amazing! I am really looking forward to this one, I hope it is as good as the pieces I have seen. Any opinions of this film? Anyone looking foward to it or seen the trailers?

I have to tell you, even though I am a pencil artist, I do prefer CGI. It is sooo damned cool. But you know what i like even better? Claymation. Have you seen that latest Wallus & Grommit movie? I laughed my arse off. Those little clay characters are wonderful.
You work for Disney Groz? So.... when are you going to hook me up? ;D
There is certainly something to be said for well done pen and paper animation though. Have you seen Spirited Away? That movie is great. Princess Mononoke too, and I nomally dont like anime.

"could" I parlay this into a gift of the ultimate unholy weapon for Ranan? ;D There is certainly something to be said for well done pen and paper animation though. Have you seen Spirited Away? That movie is great. Princess Mononoke too, and I nomally dont like anime. All of the Miyazaki titles are very good and I have almost all of them on DVD. Actually Disney owns the distribution rights to the 7 main ones, including the 2 you mentioned, in all markets outside of Japan, so I bought the DVDs internally. Anyway to me they are really good because of the stories they tell.

Chricken little looks funny, just likes its precessors, incredibles (one of my favs), finding nemo, bugs life and toy story...all gold. And some of the voices i've her such as Zach Braff, Garry Marshall, Joan Cusack, Steve Zahn, Don Knotts it should be quite the funny stuff. If disney does what was done with the last ones, this could be another goldy.
As for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, well i've read all those books and i've been a fan when i was a kid. Those special effects in this show have potential. Where this movie could go wrong are the kids actings skills...they're new and no ones ever really seen them before, but with a director like Andrew Adamson they are going to be guided in the right direction. His last two movies, the shreks were good, but from what i've read, this is his kinda non-animation movie. This will be interesting. As for the movie, i am really pumped cause i was a big fan!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Chronicles of Narnia. I hope it is good and does well and they release the whole series or something. Aren't there 7 books in that series? I've only read the first two.
Chicken Little doesn't really interest me very much. For some reason I feel familiar with the character but I can't remember from where. Until I see some previews that inspire me, I'll hold-off and see what others are saying. Every time I hear/read the title, I think of the line in the Aerosmith song Living on the Edge: "If Chicken Little told you that the sky was falling, even if it wasn't would you still come crawling back again? I bet you would my friend...again and again and again and again"
This is the first CG movie Disney has done in-house, isn't it? The others were done by Pixar but Pixar isn't involved on Chicken Little?

There are seven and in fact The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe is book 2 although it was written first. Chicken Little doesn't really interest me very much. For some reason I feel familiar with the character but I can't remember from where. Until I see some previews that inspire me, I'll hold-off and see what others are saying. The others were done by Pixar but Pixar isn't involved on Chicken Little? That is exactly the basis of the movie, the sky is falling chicken. And yes the previous films, Toy Story, Monsters, Nemo, Incredibles were Pixar productions. Chicken Little is the first full CGI title from Disney Feature Animation. They did some CGI in Dinosaur and Treasure Planet, but it was mixed with other techniques.

I've always kinda been a fan of the disney movies. They are really moving past the cartoony stuff too such as Remember the titans and pirates of the caribeean.
Oh one question though grozer, when is Dead mans chest coming out and how do i get a job with disney?

C.S. Lewis was a GENIUS of a writer. He beats Tolkien anyday. Bradbury, Wells and Vonnegut are the only Sci Fi/Fantasy writers better than him. (And Vonnegut, who just happens to be the best author EVER, is Science Fiction, I don't care what anyone says.) Sorry. Rant. As much as I hate Disney, I'll still see Narnia, but they better not blow it. As for CGI...eh.

Hey Racestark, don't forget Fred Saberhagen, his Swords 12 book series was the reason I got into fantasy/sci-fi

Cs lewis was a genius? cmon! over Tolkien? thats just crazy talk my man. First of all, i will admit that i never cared for CS Lewis at all but i would rank andre norton, Tolkein, and even eddings over cs any day. I think salvatore reminds me of Cs lewis as i really dont care for his characters either though they be well made up, just never have that real depth. I am sure the cs lewis movie will be good, but on a par with Lord of the Rings? Maybe more like a Willow, which was a GREAT movie. Also, i loved Chicken Little though disneys/pixar movie we as a familiy loved best was the Incredibles. What about some of the older classic fantasy movies? Like Krull, the first Conan, or one of my cheesy favorites, Sword and the Sorecorer(spelled that wrong). and of course the coolest comedy fantasy, Army of Darkness which i was an extra in. (Yeah, i am that cool, lol) Anyhow, anybody else have some favorite movies as well as upcoming movies? and when is Dragonlance going to be made into a movie? i would love to see maybe Johnny Depp as Raistlin, Dennis Quaid as Sturm, that guy who played the dwarf in horrible D&D movie as Flint, maybe the Rock could be Cameron with some acting lessons...damm, what a list of characters we would need.

personally i like the works of Tolkien better then Lewis. i also hate disney never really liked 90% of the films nor did i like any of the cartoons they made while i was growing up. but the ones i liked were good fricken movies and the CGI in Narnia looks prime, i think.
