So I was rolling some quests ideas around in my noggin as I was browsing through my DVD collection and Princess Bride sort of popped out at me. And I thought, "Ahha! Why not your good ol' damsel in distress scenario?"
But then I got to thinking that just placing down your hum drum NPC damsel felt a little empty. The players will rescue her and then they get thanked and she goes on her way.... blah.... yaaaaawn.
So! What I am looking for is this:
I would like some players in the community to sacrif--- ... errrrr.... tooooo..... volunteer their respective PCs for the role of the Damsel In Distress. This way a little bit more in depth roleplay can come from the whole event. The "Damsel" can be rescued and end up with future interaction with whoever helped with said rescue.
However! Before you go plunging in to place your character on the bloody alter I will need to mind you of a few things to this situation.
1) Being as that you will be the rescuee and not the rescuer, expect this to be somewhat boring for a good score of time. Most of my attention will be on that of the rescuers and how they handle the obstacles in front of them. I might even have your character unconscious for the duration, so don't expect too much interaction except at the start and again near the end.
2) In connection with number one, don't expect to be able to rescue yourself. If I manage to run this with the assistance of another DM then, yes, it could be possible. If not, then I really wouldn't want my attention split where I have to tell either side to wait a minute while I handle the other. That doesn't make for good quest management.
3) Do not make a character just for this situation, I would like the PC to be a little bit established in character and personality. Having some new PC come along and have this happen to them is almost the equivalent of me calling up an NPC for the job.
4) Just because you apply for this does not give you the guarantee that it will happen. And if it does happen it may not happen for a while... or it may happen tomorrow... or it may not happen at all. Your application on this is simply stating your willingness as a player to co-operate with me in the quest.
So! With the above points in mind I open this thread up for players to apply as a D.I.D. What I need is simply the following:
Log In Name: (your log in name as it shows in NWN) Character Name: (the character or characters you're volunteering for the role) Time(s) usually on: (the times/days you're usually on playing, please put what timezone you are in)
To add: A D.I.D. does not just have to be female! Dudes In Distress may apply for this as well. ^_^

*Shrugs* I wouldn't mind if one of my characters are "captured", but they probably would not be the best choices. Rigrin's liable to annoy the captors to death, and I can't see Celith going along willingly and without making attempts to escape without a very good reason... still and silent spells go a long way towards escaping most mudane prisons.
Meh, why not, just in case you can't find anyone else.
Player Name: Neoseanster Character Names: Celith Kalaben, Rigrin Fristo Times: ~4 PM EST to ~11 PM EST weekdays, ~4 PM EST to whenever Fridays, pretty much constantly on Saturdays, some random time in the morning to ~11 PM EST Sundays.

Character : Mezereon Thymelaea
Times (GMT) : c.1600 to c.08.00, dates subject to an irregular duty roster, but usually 3 or 4 days a week.

I would also suggest you make sure people would want to rescue your character.
Mez for example. Totally up for rescuing her.
Hoot? Umm.
Feanorre? Will I get a discount in the future?
Of course, I can't speak for the lady PCs, who might be totally up for rescuing the men who've stepped forward.
Oooh! Sywyn!! Who wouldn't want him grateful to his beautiful rescuer?
*goes off to write his kidnapping request*

This wouldn't work for Adelius...he isn't the sort to be taken alive. He is more the sort to grudginly go about the task of rescuing someone and then perform a incredible deed of heroism at the most dire moment (falling on the High Priest of Bane right before he cuts the throat after tripping over a random chair).
And no Hoot I will NOT rescue you.

Methinks if Torian were kidnapped, the folk in Isinhold, like the relatives of the kidnap 'victim' in O'Henry's wickedly funny short story, would demand a ransom from the kidnappers before agreeing to her return......

Ailren would save Torian, he'd just never let her hear the end of it I'm in the same vein as Aodhan in that, though I'm perfectly willing to play the part of an abducted person, more folk would be happy to see Ailren go away, including would be kidnappers. But, if you need someone to play kidnapper, well then, step into this dark alley and we'll talk business...

Heh. Allright, allright, for those of you who keep PMing me on this issue. Isabelle is fairly obviously a perfect candidate for this, being that everybody knows she would need rescuing, and most people would (want to enjoy that while I can). Isabelle is established in the PC community, pretty much everybody knows her, and her personality is very much appropriate to what it sounds like you're looking for. As for spending long periods of time not doing anything... already happening.
Player Name: White_Pawn (aka Pawnzilla) Character Name: Isabelle Mezistikan Times: Heh. Well, pretty much all the time. I can give you a copy of my military timetable if you want, but more or less (incorrectly assuming I'm working when I should be) is: Monday - Thursday: 6-12 EST Friday-Sunday: Are you kidding? I live here.

Padrin's chops!
Not only do they contain enough bread crumbs and dried beer for a man or woman to subsist upon indefinately, but they also stash enough loose equipment for MacGyver to reinvent civilization.
They've also been known to seize and devour small children and hin without warning.
Beware the chops.

I do not have any characters to offer as a D.I.D. However, Torgeir, more or less, would likely take up the challenge of rescuing someone because it would be the right thing to do, or because of the fighting even. As for being romantically involved with the Damsel... *stifles a laugh* fat chance.
