I have an idea fore a character but I am not sure all of my information is correct and I would like clarification before I do anything.
My Idea is a character that is a Monk/Sorcerer/Red Dragon Disciple.
My current understanding is that a monk must belong to an existing order and can only multi-class as that order allows, Red Dragon Disciple does not require approval before it is taken but any PRC cannot be taken before level 10 (or rather your 10th level can be your first level of the PRC), and if multi-classing before level 10 I need to make sure that I have 4 levels in each class.
So at level 10 the character would look like this: Monk 5 / Sorcerer 4 / Red Dragon Disciple 1
Have I got all that correct? Assuming that I do I next look at the monastic orders.
None of the monk orders mention anything for or against PRC’s and the Sun Soul order seems to have the most leeway on multi-classing, as follows:
Sun Soul (Good or Neutral) Multi-class Options: Multi-class as one other class as long as their monk level remains the highest level
What little information I was able to find about monastic orders is a little conflicting. Some state that only one other class can be taken and others state that more than one other class can be taken as long as monk remains the highest level.
Is my intended combination of classes is acceptable for the Sun Soul order? If not, is there a monastic order that it would fit with? The list of the monk orders on the forum said that it was the major orders, are there any minor ones that would work?

This class combination is fine ASSUMING that you no longer wish to level up as a monk as soon as you take RDD levels.
There is no monk order that allows for this class combination and continuation of monk levels (at least not listed in our lore of the lands section). If you find an OFFICIAL source, you may post that order for the DMs to review.
So given: Monk 5/Sorc 4/RDD 1 ... your maximum monk level will be 5.

I have looked through several sources either and I cant find anything that strictly says this is not allowed.
One thing though...
Sun Soul (Good or Neutral) Multi-class Options: Multi-class as one other class as long as their monk level remains the highest level
that in of it self says Sun Soul Monk's can only multiclass once and have a max of two class.. the third as RDD wouldnt be allowed or at least that is the way I personally read that sentence.

As I said, it was confusing because I found conflicting information. while it says Multi-class as one other class on this sight, other sights say Multi-class as other classes and I did not know if this was a deliberate limitation by this server or a typo. Seeing the responses I take it that it is a deliberate limitation. Thanks for the clarification.

Well.. dont take it as yet.. I am still doing a bit of research in regards to this.. That was why I put it as my personal interpretation of that sentence.
Give us a day or two to look through a couple more sources before a final verdict is given.

The "members of the Sun Soul order can gain levels in one other class and still progress as a monks as long as their monk level is their highest class level" line is straight from source. Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Monastic Orders sidebar (page 25).

So as soon at that first level of RDD is taken then the character can no longer advance as a monk. Correct?
