This is new to me as of today... Shabba is a sneaky character and sometimes she likes to sneak around going in and out of places she isn't supposed to be, and she noticed that while opening a door she is caught standing in plain sight... I have never had this happen before, come out of stealth after opening a door...I do agree this is much more challenging, but realistically opening a door quietly in NWN doesn't happen."CREEEEEK" I know "Game mechanics". Non the less popping out of stealth while opening a door has never happened to me before and it is going to take a lot to get used to. There should be a better way to resolve this issue. Like making the doors quieter, so sneaks like Shabba can remain in stealth. Because I really don't want to have to kill every NPC or monster that spots me opening a door. Stealth is there for a reason. And if I must use a invisibility potion every time, that kinda defeats the purpose of using the stealth mode. I really hope this is just some random glitch that I am having, and can be fixed...anyway please let me know so I can continue on my merry way sneaking about...
Thanks A little more nervous Shabba

this is a change that was made with the new update that I just found out about today as well. Vind also relys HEAVILY on his sneaking ability, and I found that opening a door makes you come out of stealth. It's very realistic, I mean it's not like you should be able to open a door in front of someone and them not notice...but it *is* possible to come into a room quietly with no one noticing if you do it right. We'll see what happens...that's all I can give ya amiga. hang tight.

I also play a character that loves his sneaking. I know that one is more likely to be spotted opening a door but I think it should still possible to be sneaky, especially in a fantasy setting where characters have kewl powerz (TM). I don't picture a highly experienced theif throwing a door wide open when trying to sneak, I figure he's going to carefully open it just wide enough to squeeze through then shut it behind him. He's at a greater risk for getting caught, but he's done it long enough to know how to minimize that risk.
Would it be possible to change the scripting change such that you took a temporary pentalty to stealth after opening a door? I've been on a server that did this for doors and chests and it worked well.
I also remember the old Quest for Glory games, were you could buy oil for squeeky hinges so you could sneak into to rooms. I'm guessing scripting that would be a nightmare.
I am a squeeky wheel AND I posted to someone else's DM Q&A post, which means that I have forgone the right to not have my post edited. And if I modify this post again, I am gonna get a spanking.

The problem with that is the players still see the door opening, they just don't see anyone coming through it. Since they look at the door when it opens, they should be able to see someone coming through it.
It's true they shouldn't always have their attention drawn to the door opening but because of the way NWN's doors behave, they do. If they do (which they do) then they should notice someone coming through the door unless they are invisible.
Stealth ≠ Invisibility

Thanks for the 411, Munroe. Makes sense now. I am a squeeky wheel AND I posted to someone else's DM Q&A post, which means that I have forgone the right to not have my post edited. And if I modify this post again, I am gonna get a spanking.
