I've been involved in some RP with different PC's fairly recently where people have asked about having others assassinated. Is this an evil act, or no? In seperate incidents, I've seen both evil shifts and chaotic shifts for this and was hoping there was a consensus. Always thought it was evil myself, but hey, I could be wrong.
Thanks.

Assassination is always an evil act.
Random acts of violence are both evil and chaotic.
If there is a contract drawn up for the person's life and the employee completes it without any sort of alteration to the contract, this could even be considered a lawful act.
If I saw you PvP someone, kill them and then try to dispose of them, I would most likely send you a tell asking why you just did it. If you say you were hired to, there is a chance that I will just give you evil points.

Thanks Greenhouse, that makes sense.

Most likely they would be hit with some evil points as well.

The only time I could see it "not" being evil, would be the case where defensless people hire someone to assassinate someone who has been terrorizing them. Any kind of clear case of someone does not have the power him/herself, but is fronting the gold to have someone who clearly deserves it taken out by an assassin with the ability to do it. A round about method of self defense. However, even in these situation, it certainly couldnt be considered a "good" act, just because of the method involved... just not an evil one either. Infact, it would probably deserve some choatic points. Much like a chaotic good character who throws dirt in the eyes of a vilian and then kicks him in the balls while he is blinded. The act wasnt esspecially good... but the result probably was... so, its a wash.

Thanks Greenhouse, that makes sense. A person hiring someone to assassinate someone would be, in contemporary terms, engaged in conspiracy to commit murder. In other words, they're pretty much also a murderer, they just don't get their hands dirty.
