I recently noticed that old posts disappear over time. I was wondering if this was the webboards self cleaning or the dms? And are the old posts just deleted?

I don't have any sort of cleaner on old posts so I will assume that the DM's that have administrative powers just wipe old worthless topics. Most everything sticks around for as long as we decide it is relavant so if the topic is missing it was resolved or has been deemed to be unworthy of the illustrious FRC boards.

My very first adventure post is gone (the story of the lich in the isinhold tombs). Granted it wasn't all that well written, but I didn't think it was that bad for a DM to delete it. Ah well, better start backing up some of my other writings...

Ah well, better start backing up some of my other writings... Well then I must be incorrect because I don't think we ever purposly delete any player based fiction. It's just odd because the oldest news and announcement posts still seem to be around. Now I am confused too. It looks like your first theory must be right regarding the forums being self governing. I will look into it. Geez you're a pain in the ass Quad.

They don't call me a butt pirate for nothing. Anyways, the only other thing I could think of is if there is a personal setting where it only shows so many posts since a certain date. Sorry for being a pain in your ass

I know of a few times I went back looking for a post and couldn't find it.
I've always assumed that there was a timer for posts that hadn't been viewed over a period of time or that a limited amount of posting space was available and non-stickied posts were deleted as new content was added.

Geez you're a pain in the ass Quad. though I agree to Quad being a HUGE pain in the ass for basically everyone who has ever known him, I would like to see what kind of horrid retleeing he did of that lich encounter in the Isin tombs. That was like our 3rd day on the server a few years back, and I can only barely remember it.

I remember thrulia standing in the crypts, with a longbow making sure everyone got out and her saying she'd hold the undead back as long as she could. And vind and hroth dragging her out for being dumb... then some "uber" character came and killed the lich... Who was it? Jerico...? Jacob?

I think (and this is just my thoughts) that it only keeps the top 20 pages in any given forum. Stickied posts and such would not go away because they're on the first page, but non-stickied threads keep getting pushed into higher pages until they are pushed of the forum when they would be moved to page 21.

My story was posted under the regal griffon, so I don't think that this would be the case. But I think you are right Munroe...

Yeah, I don't know where I got the number 20. I must have been thinking of something else. Clearly there are only 7 pages on the Regal Griffon forum. There are 14 pages in the Off Topic Discussion forum, so that doesn't add up. Maybe it is by date acrosss all non-stickied threads? I have no idea. At this point I'm shooting in the dark.

DM: "You hear something moving in the darkness" Player: "I cast Magic Missile." DM: "... At what?" Player: "I cast Magic Missile at... the DARKNESS!"
