Player groups should not punished and should allow to finish their dungeon,
Do not assume that the group will finish something easily so lets make it hard, have them use their resources so they leave.
If you do want to spice things, then do so but leave resources for the group to finish.
This world encourages role play and traveling in groups.
For many who do gather for once or twice a week to adventure, not allowing them to finish is bad form as maybe they can not meet the next time.
Respectfully,

Hello Animayhem,
We're sorry that your group had to retreat from the dungeon today, but to set the record straight there were no DM or EDM interactions of any kind during your adventure. What you faced was purely the AI and nothing more, and we have the logs showing that to be the case as well. I will share for transparency there were 3 of us online at the time, each in different areas of the server (I was working on Greengrass stuff in a DM area) when we saw the deaths start to roll in and ported to your location to observe what was happening. When it was determined that nothing out of the ordinary was occurring (no bugs or issues), and that there were two survivors still working through the challenge to rescue the others, the 3 of us ported away to leave the party to their own devices. So in summary, you and your peers were already dead before any Staff even arrived onsite, and no creatures were touched or manipulated in any way by the Staff during the short time we were observing. Unfortunately your actions here are something we must also address. As a longtime Community Contributor and fellow Staff member of the FRC Build Team, bringing a complaint forward in this manner is inappropriate and does not set the right expectation for other players. The public assumption that a Staff member intentionally killed party members is a disservice to the hard work put forth by the DM/EDMs and the steps we have taken to provide a fun and engaging experience for all the various play styles and preferences among our Community members. I would recommend to the Community at-large that if you feel you or your party have been targeted or otherwise wronged in some way, to utilize the resources at your disposal through the Player Advocate Team to request mediation. We've expanded that team with additional volunteers and they have done a great job thus far with their open door policy to provide a listening ear, mediating player issues, and keeping both players and Staff accountable for their actions.
