So this may be a bit of a multi point question. So here goes the main questions. - What is the limit to custom item creation?
- I am aware that weapon enchants such as +1, +2 ect. as well as elemental damage 1 - 1d4 are possible through the player crafting system.
- Is there a way to craft items with on-hit cast spell?
- Is there a way to extract materials / enchantments / spells from one item to be used in crafting another?
- Do DMs create items for players willing to RP an adventure to research and create it?
The current example I have would be to use a "Rod of Burning Hands" (casts Burning Hands 3x/day) to enhance my sword with the same enchantment and destroy the rod. I also have a gleaming long sword that I would like to possibly extract the "gleaming" (AOE white light and +1 spot I believe) and apply it to another sword with +2 enhancement.

I will throw my two cents in here as I am having this chat elsewhere currently also. At the moment you are correct in thinking that the current crafting system allows players to craft / enchant items that are go up to +2. You can also add elemental damage upto 1d4. There is currently no way for a player to craft "on-hit cast spell" outside of a dm item given as a gift. These are generally rewards for outstanding roleplay and excellence. At the moment, without direct DM supervision, no. There is not a way to extract materials / enchantments / spells from one item to be used elsewhere. DM's have the discretion to create items for players as a reward for outstanding roleplay and excellence. But these items should not be counted on, expected or assumed to be an automatic as we encourage players to use what items are readily available in the game. There is a new crafting system coming but I am not aware of the details or the timeline. Hope that helps!

Excited to hear about a new crafting system. I have had an idea for quite some time for an "item forge" that would allow for item enchantments to be removed (destroying the item) and then stored into a gem (gem provided by the player). This gem could then be used to enchant another item. If the starting item has more than one enchantment you would have to select which one you want to extract and then the rest would be lost. Could start with a dialog similar to crafting benches, place an item in the forge with a gem to hold the enchantment, starts a dialog, script could detect item enchantments and list them as conversation options for which to extract. Then a new item could be placed into the forge and enchanted. While I understand not wanting to spam the server with on-hit cast items. It would be nice to see a bit more customization capabilities for characters equipment without needing DM intervention.
