As night falls over Cormyr, the skies become starry and cold.
In the dark between the stars, a pair of burning amethyst eyes looked down. A clockwork voice burrs "It has become necessary to remind those who have made contracts of the outcome of their arrangements in order to protect said contracts from being brought into question through ignorance..."
Across the nation, sleeping and awake, only those corrupted mortals who have made deals with devils or worship them all share the same horrifying dream.**
Their vision begins in the Hells.
They see what happens in detail to one who has sold their soul. The evil petitioner arrives after death and they are tortured in an unimaginable, agonizing process designed to wring out all the magical essence from their soul and infuse them with rage and Infernal corruption. The husk of the soul is then tossed into a maggot slime pit to die and be reborn as a truly disgusting creature.
A Lemure rises, the lowest of the low. A hideous blob of melted, stinking flesh that slithers across the ground. Formless and shivering below the waist but their heads and torsos still roughly humanoid. The creature's constant shifting expression of horror and pain is haunting, the mindless being gibbers, unable to speak. It only understands the devils that command it and any remnant of the person it was, is gone.
The Lemure hungers for promotion and if it lacks ambition or motivation, an even worse fate awaits...
The dreamer in the grip of this nightmare and waking vision sees their own face over the face of the Lemure. An honest education and reminder of the fate that awaits them when they pass into the realms beyond as a result of the deal they have made.
The amethyst eyes open just before dawn touches the waking sky and the light reappears.
The monotone, clockwork voice whirs, cold and without emotion "So ends the lesson in truth" before the eyes fade and the being is gone.
Some people have had a night to remember and consider for a long time.
//**Only characters who have contracts with and worship devils experience this vision.
