Rumors from the Far East
Unsettling word throughout inner Kara-Tur speaks of clergy being targeted by the hour. With less clergy come less divine intervention, and with less divine intervention comes more displaced morale. In a setting where polytheism reigns thick: the lack of a Godsvoice begins to unsettle even the Shou people of Kara-Tur.
As hundreds upon hundreds of clergy are targeted: defenders still fight the good fight to protect the people and citizens. It becomes clear that an enemy most barbaric and hostile overwhelms defenders with sheer number alone, and whose number seems to just repopulate after defeat.
Cry Mercy begins to become a theme, and the Far East may begin looking to the Far West for assistance in due course. A great battle is ahead of our heroes from Faerun. Will Cormyrs forces join?

3+ Months or so into the crisis
A break in the intense action seems to have occurred. The Far Eastern nation of Kara-Tur and the neighbors seem to be able to take a break from a daunting and horrifying series of battles. Rumors of insidious gargoyle-like-beings officially cascade throughout Mulhorand, Thay, and Aglarond.
"Clergy are a target, or people of spiritual ties. They are slaughtered quick by these gargoyle monsters. The foe seems to ignore a lot of weapons."

The Eastern Nations of Faerun begin to be clued-in on rumors out of Kara-Tur. Terrible, unspeakable rumors, of soul-less gargoyle-like monsters that render apart denizens with faith in the Gods. With no mercy, children are known to be targeted too as if to plug a hole in concerns. The Red Wizards of Thay across the nation pool in as many possible perspectives that they can derive and begin to assess situations and curiosities, if this is indeed a problem for the "Far West" to be concerned over or not. Remember that some evil entities, are OK to see the world burn.
