It's time.
After being a member for 15 years, and playing for 10 (had a 5 year break from 2013-2018) it is time to go. While I knew this was inevitable I did not think it would have happened now.
Sadly due to an OOC valid discussion on the forums events not only lead to a guild member (who is now a player advocate) using that OOC forum discussion to influence their IC actions, but through that has restricted a lot of RP possibilities for my main character. Any discussion about this was also met with a brick wall.
For me I tried to keep my forum presence separated from my main. As someone who has dealt with OOC info being used in game before I felt it was prudent to be "anonymous". I wanted my main to be THE villain of the server, but that never seemed to come to fruition. Especially after my forum name was called out on the forum discussion I mentioned earlier.
While I know I could have done things better in game since my return a few years ago the more I asked questions, or tried to get an understanding of why things are, the more others perceived me as being abrasive (which was not my intent). I even asked to have my two main characters retired so the rest of the players can still interact with them, and was told "no". Even decisions about what I can and can't do going forward were being made by guildmates via Discord on channels I'm no longer a part of.
Some player advocacy there.
So no more. I can't, and won't, be a part of this anymore. I would not treat another person this way, and don't understand why this is happening in this manner.
Sure I could play yet ANOTHER character, but logging in knowing what I don't have would hamper my ability to positively contribute. Plus there's only so many times one can go through the starting area before it's no longer a challenge.
I hate doing this because the Sunday group I play with (logged in as my Paladin Keyleth) will be negatively impacted. They are good players, and I bet if I knew them in person would get to know them as good people. They meet every Sunday in the Suzail market at 7:00pm USA EDT. Please join them if you can. It's a blast. I will miss you all.
What was great about them is that they kept the RP in the actual game. Not on the forums. When an event takes the focus away from being logged in the game and places it on to the forums then why even bother logging in to the game? It also brings the attention to others who are not directly involved in the plot, and just does nothing but cause unnecessary drama.
I wish things could have been better, but I didn't come back to play solo on my main. If I wanted to do that there are a plethora of other games out there to do so. This is supposed to be a cooperative experience, and sadly that doesn't appear to be happening right now on my main.
I wouldn't say I wasted my time here as I would have eventually wanted to make the character I loved playing, but now I feel like I would be wasting my time trying to get things running again, and also not feel appreciated for what those efforts could bring to the server.
I hope you all continue to have fun. *moderated*
All hail Bane.
