The Grinsmall Clan of the Silver Marches
“Nothing ever goes wrong with a Grinsmall around!”
(Cooper Vulpes)
Bio
The Grinsmall Clan consists of approximately 80 members alive scattered in the most remote corners of Faerûn, most of them established in the Silver Marches at Citadel Felbarr. Most Grinsmalls were merchants responsible for trade routes important, even vital, to the development of many hamlets and small towns. Some members of the Clan, however, avoid the calling of fate and seek fulfillment in other domains.
Being famous barley dealers, the clan’s coat of arms features a beer mug full of coins and jewels, thus presenting two great passions of the Grinsmalls.
History
The first of the Grinsmalls was present at the Battle of Many Arrows in 1104 DR when the citadel was captured by orcs and renamed the Citadel of Many Arrows.
In 1367 DR, the Year of the Shield, the band of brave dwarves led by Emerus Warcrownwhen who recaptured Citadel Felbarr featured none other than the remarkable Gundor Grinsmall among their ranks.
Shortly after Gundor’s passing, in 1384 DR, his son Tundor Grinsmall left the Silver Marches for the famous kingdom of Cormyr, seeking to expand on the work of Berronar Truesilver, patron deity of his paladinhood. The occasion, however, proved a complication to the clan - with the elder brother Kuraz “Skullcrusher” being always the wanderer, the vacancy of a strong male figure took its toll in the shape of a coup, through which most family assets were taken away and the remaining of Gundor’s offspring hunted down. This left siblings Brunhilda, Grunted “Ted” and Theodora with no other choice but to follow the trail of their big brother, hoping to regroup, strengthen their rank and reclaim all that was once - and still is - rightfully theirs.
Genealogy
*Mafel married Zerathul Ephel and had two sons: Phaelios Ephel and Karim Ephel. The two brothers were kidnapped by Duergar dwarves and enslaved from childhood by a dispute between Zerathul and the Duergars. The couple was freed from slavery but got lost in the escape, but eventually found their way into Cormyr. Phaelios' knowledge of crafting is all Underdark-related, all from the 30 years he was a slave to the Duergars.
