Hail Cormyrians
In the last month or so FRC's forum on Proboards has had four bogus posts made with inappropriate content and external links.
The question has been asked,
The FRC Forum is as reasonably secure as most things on the internet - which means one should always be careful. Keep in mind even US Credit Bureaus can be hacked.
Proboards has validation measures for creating new accounts. FRC relies upon Proboards validation measures. If an individual or some bot slips by these measures and creates an account, they're able to make forum posts.
If a user account makes a bogus post with strange, suspicious links just relax. A member of the DM Team will remove the post and disable the account from posting again on FRC.
In the meanwhile, everyone should practice good internet hygiene on the FRC Forum or anywhere online - stranger danger, don't click on strange links or visit strange websites. Only click on links you trust. Make sure your account passwords are reasonably secure.
There are further steps the staff can take, such as not allowing any new accounts to be created until we manually approve them. I'd rather not add this burden to our bandwidth and slow down the process of legit folks trying to join our community forum. We'll see how things go.
Remember the best internet policy: Click responsibly anywhere on the internet. It can save you a world of grief.
