MY STYLE: I'm not much of a fan of "On-Rails" video games and thus I would say my style of DMing reflects that. Nowadays, I much prefer emergent gameplay, lateral thinking and open world scenarios, where the characters have considerable room for creativity and for finding alternate solutions to specific obstacles and potentially dangerous situations.
When it comes to difficulty and rewards, my style should be considered High Risk and High Reward. I will make you use those priced heal potions, high level scrolls, charged items and wands often. That is what those things are there for, after all! Don't be cheap hoarder and use them if that means your character can avoid death for some rounds more. My encounters are frequently very challenging and at times overpowering too. I try not to cause TPKs, but if those happen, then bear with me and do not respawn right away, unless you really want to. If the characters prevail during my events, then some will be granted very good loot, which will at times be unique or very rare, and as far as the EDM guidelines for rewards in FRC allow.
I'm not experienced enough yet for DMing lengthy and complex campaigns or series, so the focus for now remains as Regional Quests, Single Shot Events, GG-Vols Musters, Dungeon Spice and support for the Senior DMs during their own events and plotlines.
As for player driven initiatives and plotlines, I prefer to read about them in some IC thread or ingame and then devise an event for these players, than to help with them due to an OOC request. In other words, I like to to keep things spontaneous and as a surprise for those that make an effort to stand out somehow, and that are not just clearing dungeons or soloing all day long. RP items (and now placeable objects too) with little to no magical properties will usually be granted, unless the requests for these are ridiculous or otherwise impossible to fulfill.
As some already know, I happen to build for FRC too. Special surprise tweaks to certain areas will be done if I notice some character or characters doing something in them that gets my attention. An example: The herb patches present in certain treetop area were put there after a druid PC performed some roleplay related to them.
