Almost two years have passed since I had a hearing test, I finally got one done yesterday. Both hearing aids needed replacing, unsurprisingly, so I have new ones and I'm back to +10 to Listen 😂
I left the office with the new ones in and immediately got startled by a woman sneezing on the other side of the street, it sounded like she was next to me so proof the upgrade is working 👍

We have over 100+ new cases at my VA. One of my coworkers tested positive. I had a test and it was negative. This is the 7th person in my department to get it since it was first tracked.
The rates in WA have risen. I think many who have had the vaccine think they are immortal so they do not take the precautions.

I've been isolating my self. Previous weekend (not the last one) my mother in law wanted to have a family meeting. Husband and I questioned it, but we went anyway. We didn't stay for the whole thing.
Now almost everyone there has confirmed covid. Both of us arw waiting for results and feeling miserable. PRC tests take now up to 84h to get results. The labs have so much work that one of the local ones just got berated for storing samples in the lunch/rec-room fridge (ewwww!) together with the employees' food.

I thought this would be easy and that I would be "back to work" (distance) last Tuesday. However I've been feeling worse day by day, circulating every type of cold imaginable.
I've also partially lost taste. The saddest one is coffee. It tastes like tar or something. It's horrible, just unimaginably bad. I try to drink it, but it takes basically hours for just one mug. And as it's disgusting already, luke-warm and roomstemperature coffee isn't really the worst part anyway.
It is slightly easier than the last time, though.
Also, thank you digital world for online grocery shopping, and fast-food delivery. Otherwise me and husband would be starving.

Not pandemic related but if you can, spare love and prayers for Ukraine and our old friend Sergeil. We have remained in contact since he departed FRC and I stand in solidarity with him, his people and country

Saw photos and videos of day one.. absolutely sad and unwarranted.

Just reading what I posted above has dragged me down again. Not heard from Sergeil in a while now. They say no news is good news but I have watched his city attacked by the Russians, shelled every day... the last time we communicated he said something very poignant. He had faith Ukraine will win but "not all Ukrainians will live to see it".
I'll find out what has happened but not for some time.
I'm undergoing some medical treatment for the next two weeks. It's not serious but it is necessary. I can now say despite being indifferent to needles, I'm now sick of them and have taken to singing every time I get one of my 6 injections. The nurses find it hilarious and their amusement entertains me. So do the looks I get on the way out having made two nurses laugh.
I will be back, I will feel better. Until then my contributions will be here and there.

This one hits a little too close to home. I have Ukrainians in my IRL circle. One has their mom still in Kiev.
I have difficulty describing my feelings about this, but I'm definitely having some kind of existential crisis.
We have cold War-like preparations going on. People look for the closest bomb shelter. Some are prepping. Some open their homes for Ukrainian refugees. Some drive busses to fetch them. I continue to live my life "normally", which feels strange and wrong.

I thought of you when they started threatening Sweden over NATO. How to unify your "enemies", eh? I'm old enough to remember Cold War anxiety, when I was a teenager we went through similar drills on a different scale. It feels like the bad old days are back and will be for a while as history repeats itself, tough times will end.

It feels like the bad old days are back and will be for a while as history repeats itself, tough times will end. I was stationed at an underground nuclear command center during some of the nastiest years of the cold war (Cheyenne Mountain 1983-87). The mushroom cloud dreams never went away completely but this crap the last few months certainly brings back those memories. Reminds me of a friend in college... AF ROTC, went in to be a missile control officer. Apparently during one training drill he and his partner launched exactly one hour early. The rest of us used to joke that in case of war we'd have an hour warning to evacuate, as a lone Minuteman flew over the pole...

Dealing with Omicron here. Between sitting up to sleep, and the general fatigue that comes with it, I'm pretty worn down these days. My evening gaming is severely cut down for the time being.

The majority of our neighbors have COVID. We are one of the few families that don't have it yet in this street. Probably because we don't mix with people.
My uncle who is recovering from cancer treatment has caught it too He's refused all along to take COVID seriously, he is now.
I'm being very cautious. I haven't dropped my pandemic routine. While my own issue isn't serious unless it's untreated, I am at risk of complications if I do catch it so it's not worth letting my guard up just yet. I have to go back to the medical center in a few weeks.

The risk of complications is a hit and miss. I started isolating myself early, due to having a predisposition which puts me in a risk group for severe complications. While my coworkers still worked from the office, I was already working from home in early 2020.
I had Covid 2 times. And while after my last time (which was in January/February) my doctor sent me to ER (the doctor was afraid I might have gotten a blood clot in my lungs, which is one of covid complications), ultimately I had no issue other than a quickened pulse (over 120); and fatigue that lasted for a few weeks.
And on the other end of the scale, healthy people, have ended up with severe complications. This disease is so difficult to have a working and foreseeable pattern, that it's frustrating.
Having said that. Stay safe!! Because you never know

I'm doing better for the most part, except my breathing. My O2 levels continue to fluctuate between mid 90's to mid to high 80's. MY COPD has likely flared up from the virus. Have an appointment with doctor tomorrow. Likely to be put on more steroids for awhile.

A co-worker came back Monday 5/2 from a week's vacation. He'd visited relatives in the Southern US (Georgia, South Carolina).
He had a mask on when he came in ...
He had the sniffles ...
Sounded sick ...
Said he was "Ok!"
Boss had him use a Covid home testing kit. Came up positive. Immediately sent him home. He and his wife both got more accurate testing at the hospital. Both turned out positive for having Covid.
We were all upset. We disinfected everywhere he went for the three hours he was here. Bathrooms especially.
As if we weren't under stress before being understaffed and overworked ...
And now another co-worker is getting tested as he started having symptoms.
We are angry at our co-worker for putting us all at risk, for not taking any precautions. He did the whole "I'm okay!" rhetoric for what? To salve his pride? To not have to work from home? To go with the toxic notion that if you're sick you can still go to work?
To top it off, pollen count in the air these last two weeks have been hellish. We get to play the game of "Is it hay fever or covid?" every day. So far, for me, it's been allergies, but the worry is palatable.

I'm thinking that a person should automatically get fired for things like that.
Last year I had a situation where they locked out the entire office due to a stupid person like that. And that person had already tested themselves (!) and was waiting for the result. And still went to work. Everyone that were there had to go test themselves.
I was one of the lucky ones that weren't there.
Stay safe.
I currently have a cold. I'm fairly sure it's a cold, since I had covid in February. I also have allergies, but they got lighter due to covid, so it came with some positives
