Hello my fellow adventurers! I am a few days in to my journey so far but I am having issues figuring out how to rest or set up a camp. I have been able to purchase a room key to rest in an inn, but thats it. I have found the camp supply kit not sure if that's exactly what its called and used its ability but nothing happened and I was still unable to rest after. I have also seen the tinderbox but when attempting to use it got a message saying that I did not have the materials to use it.
Any advice would be appreciated. I feel like im posting alot of noob questions, but have just had trouble finding the information on the forums.

I don't use it much, but if I remember correctly, if you have the proper supplies in inventory you need only hit the R key and be in a place where there are no monsters nearby. Give it a shot anyway...

You can rest at any Inn that sells room keys.
You can gather wood from any "forest log or dead tree" and purchase a Tinderbox from most General Stores that allows you to "use" the wood to make a camping roll. Camping Rolls can also be purchased from some General Stores. "Use" the Tinderbox to make any wood into a camping roll. Then press "r" to initiate and "r" again to confirm the use of the camping roll to rest in allowable areas. Keep in mind this does not work in -every- area (most dungeons are excluded), or if there are enemies nearby.
Beyond that, there are also "tents" for sale from certain merchants in certain cities that perform roughly the same function, but with a visual of having a tent instead of just a camp fire, and the tent is reusable unlike the Camping Rolls that need to be bought or created after each use.
EDIT: revised the use of the "r" key to rest, do not "use" the camping roll with the radial menu

If I remember correctly, do NOT "use" the camping supplies from the radial menu... It doesn't work, but it still consumes the supplies. Instead, hit the R ("rest") key twice; the first will tell you that there's no place to rest but the second will set up a campfire.
And, as mentioned, not all places can be used to rest, and there needs to be no hostile creatures nearby.

Malclave is right.
Whatever you do, do not use the camping supplies. With one in inventory hit R, you will then be prompted to confirm the rest by hitting R again.
That being said, you're not an adventurer until you waste at least one camping supply kit by using it so, kudos to getting past your first milestone!

All above is correct. However there are areas where you simply can't camp.
Dungeons will often have "securable rooms" where you can camp if you shut the door behind you.
The only real way to discover where you can and can't rest, is to try.

OK it was probably due to; A) using the camp supplies from inventory B) trying to camp inside a dungeon
Thanks for all the help guys and giving me some info on the tinderbox as well.
