Hello everyone, Im a new player here as well as new to persistent NWN in general however i have played nwn sense back in the day.
I have created my character and am now in the Regal Griffin Inn. When I was creating my character I was given languages based on my race and then told that I was allowed to select two additional languages. I chose elven and dwarven and then decided to save my 3rd extra language.
I have looked through the server info and custom content sticky posts and looked around on the wiki but am having trouble finding general information on the language system what languages there are, what you start with, how to acquire new languages ext.

You inform a DM that you wish to learn a language (and which it is). You then need to find a teacher and roleplay learning that language.
Not necessarily in that order.
After a while, you will gain the extra language token, from a DM.

I have and item in my invintory that is for Dwarven and one for Illuskan (which i assume is my human language) but I dont see one for Elven. When you toggle on a language does it some how prevent other players from understanding me unless they also have that language?

You say that you left one language spot for later. If you want to learn that language, you will need to have a token to be able to speak and understand it.
If you have already taken elven, and haven't received an elven language token, then you need to contact a DM.
(Language token is that item in your inventory).

All characters speak Common. This is the language English represents in-game. To use additional languages, either regional, racial, or bonus, you activate the widget (which is an item in your inventory). Once you've done that, it is set as your character's active language. To speak in that language, you type what you want to say between straight brackets. So, for instance: This sentence would be in Common. Or plaintext. It doesn't have any brackets around it.[This sentence would be in elven gibberish but visible to others with the widget in plaintext.][This sentence would be in elven gibberish *and this emote would still be in plaintext*]If you want to speak Elven and Common in the same sentence, you can also use the emote tags. [This sentence would be in elven gibberish but I want to talk about *Cormyr* in my elven, so *Cormyr* is in asterisks as a proper noun so everyone can still read it in Common/plaintext.]Note also that the bracket has to be at the very beginning of what you type, you can't switch to a language mid-way through your dialogue. This does not work: Some words, but then [words in another language]. Instead, you'd have to do: [*Some words, but then* words in another language.]Does this help? If you selected Elven but don't have an Elven language widget, a DM can help with that. Your post was confusing because you said you were allowed to select two additional languages but saved your third. Were you being permitted two or three by the script? Your character should have a regional language (Illuskan, presumably, depending on the region), and may also have racial languages, depending on their race. Bonus language slots at character creation are 1 per point of INT mod. (So 14-15 INT would be two potential languages, 16-17 would be three.) For more details on how language slots (character potential to learn/know languages) are handled, that page can be found here: Server Rule 23 Expanded - Languages.

Thank you for all of this information, I apologize for my typo as i was indeed granted with 3 additional languages and not two like i had originally posted. I will contact a GM about receiving the token for Elven.
