Hello,
I made my first character, who is a monk. There's special rules regarding Monastic Orders and multiclassing. Are these orders something I find and join in game? Or is this something 'in the background,' that I just notify the DMs about? What is the preferred way to notify DMs? Public posts to this forum or by sending a private message to one of them? Thanks.

Here is the link to the information on what orders allow multiclassing and what classes can be taken and retain the ability to advance as a monk as well Multiclassing for Monks
If you have any other questions be happy to answer them

If you want your monk to be part of an existing order, you should include that as part of your character's background, such as coming from a monastary of that order. Monks should start as part of the order they belong to.
You do not need to inform anyone of your monk order before you start play, you just need to know your monk's order should it come up, or should you decide to do any multiclassing. If a DM looks at your character, we'll compare your character's deity and taken classes, and try a guess at what order the monk follows first. If we can't, we might ask you to clarify. If you are part of an order (or have no order) and decide to leave the order to do any multiclassing outside of that order (or have no order), you should inform the DM Team before doing so (via PM is fine).
(Ideally a monk that belongs to an order should be pretty obvious unless the order itself is secretive, but that's not always the case.)

You could join the Triadic Order of the Divine Resurrection! Not particularly a monk order but we had a monk once and you could flesh out a monk portion if you're up to the task.
Slightly off topic but its an Order that could be found in game...

If someone decides to take the monk path later in life, a few of the canon monastic orders have represented NPCs in the module.
If not, then inquiring with clergy of the faiths linked to those orders would make sense too.
Asking Monk Player Characters of certain monastic order could work too, provided they are willing to accept and train apprentices.
