Previously on Noble Endeavors...
Several rumours circulate the realm. They originate from different locations and at different dates, but by the 28th of Eleasias, one can learn most of this in larger cities and in taverns and inns near the origins of the rumour.
Many weeks ago... Raymond Silverthorn, the heir of Lord Edmond Silverthorn, is trapped or killed when Silverthorn's newly re-opened silver mine caves in. The mine is deemed very unstable, and work to dig through the rubble to reach him and the dozen miners that may be trapped inside is very slow. The Silverthorns has since been forced to sell their mansion in Suzail to afford hiring new miners, and now live out of the Lonesome Tankard Inn in Eveningstar.
Some time later, Fergus Hornbow, heir of the merchant Duncan Hornbow, is in a fight with a mysterious assailant. He survives only by jumping through a window on the second floor of the house he was staying in, and luckily running into some adventurers.
22th of EleasisIn Suzail, people speak of the disturbance at the Ogre. War Wizards close down the Obscene Ogre tavern for a day, and a corpse was carried out that seems to have exploded from the inside. Some rumors in the docks of Suzail tell that the notorious elven wizard Vindel was involved, and may have been arrested. He was later seen travelling the realm.
24th of EleasisIn the quiet village of Tyrluk, Purple Dragon scouts report that a large force of orcs has been sighted in the northern Storm Horns, presumably belonging to the Immortal Horde. According to the scouts, the orcs travelled in a southwestern direction, but may have split up in several groups. Strangely, the scouts came across tracks in the snow that indicated all the orcs had suddenly fallen over... only to rise up again and move on. There were no blood trails or signs of combat. The scouts were then forced to return to Tyrluk due to a sudden and violent storm.
In Suzail, Celine Silverthorn, two Silverthorn Guards and the seamstress Mynian Copperhand visit the House of Healing, apparently for some surgery. The Silverthorns leave the day after and return to Eveningstar.
26th of EleasisIn High Horn, villagers worry about a squad of Purple Dragons and War Wizards that hastily marched out into the mountains after a "stressed War Wizard had missteleported into the inn". There has been no word from the Purple Dragon squad since they left.
27th of EleasisWar Wizard Vaskander posts bounties on Chop, Chae and Walder. War Wizards are currently posted at gates around Suzail, questioning travellers and inspecting their charters and licenses. In Greatgaunt, adventurers share news from the Storm Horns that undead orcs and frost giants roam the mountains east of Skull Crag. The guards of Skull Crag send word to the lowlands, requesting aid from adventurers to defend the town from the undead.
28th of EleasisThe inhabitants of Tyrluk, Espar and Skull Crag hear strange sounds from the Storm Horns. Like thunder, the mountain groans and trembles. Huge rocks tumble down the mountain sides...
Several squads of Purple Dragons and War Wizards reinforce Espar. Word spreads throughout the realm that undead orcs march in the mountains. Adventurers are requested to gather in Tyrluk to face the onslaught of the Hordes of the Storm Horns.
// Depending on player attendance, there may be a small event today starting around 9-10 PM London time in Tyrluk…
// Likewise, there may also be a small event tomorrow...
// Depending on how things goes, there may also be a larger event on Saturday around 8 PM London time...
// There may be smaller spontaneous events in appropriate locations when you least expect it...
// This may be a good time to join the Hornbows or Silverthorns…
// These events are open to all characters. Some future events may have a level cap.

29th of Eleasis News spread across the realm of several coordinated attacks on towns and villages in western Cormyr by the hordes from the Storm Horns. Espar, Tyrluk and High Horn were all attacked by undead orcs, frost giants, and human skeletons. Espar was also attacked by a swarm of air elementals, among them a massive air elemental that towered over the town like a thundercloud, "a storm given life" as some War Wizards called it. The giant air elemental pummelled the Stormhaven House, and collapsed the roof before it could be driven off by War Wizards. Tyrluk was also attacked by a great force of earth elementals, and the defenders of Tyrluk say they saw a gigantic earth elemental rise out of the Storm Horns, the apparent source of the recent rumbling and earth tremors. The earth giant then marched westwards, towards High Horn. After the volunteer adventurers and Purple Dragons had fought off the hordes at Tyrluk, two RCMH squires led the adventurers in pursuit of the earth giant, while the Purple Dragons raced to reinforce Espar. Reaching High Horn, the adventurers found the village swarmed by the horde, but the earth giant had wandered southwards. Clearing the village of undead, they found that while some defenders and villagers had fallen, most of them had sought shelter in the castle and mines.
Some rumors tell that the hordes at High Horn and Espar were led by liches, and the skeletons wore cloaks of old Esparin noble houses. Some claim the liches spoke and cackled madly, saying things like "Freedom!", "you can take our freedom, but never our lives!" Many defenders agree, they were utterly mad.
Outside Skull Crag, the undead hordes were pushed back by adventurers, but are now regrouping again. Scouts also report that frost giants and the orcs of the Immortal Horde were seen fighting the undead orcs and giants.
A local mage of the Storm Horns known as Cathryn, or more commonly as the "Witch of the Storm Horns", quickly passed through Skull Crag and Greatgaunt on the 28th. She urged everyone to take up arms in defence of the Skull Crag. She left messages for Clan Oghrann, the Guardians, and the "Ironwood Expedition" to come to the defence of Skull Crag. She then wandered out into the mountains again, but promised to return on the 30th of Eleasis.
In Suzail and Greatgaunt, the Hornbows and Silverthorns keeps recruiting...
// The event planned for today is postponed until tomorrow Friday the 30th instead. Around 9 PM London time, in Skull Crag.
// We are still on schedule for the event on Saturday at 8 PM London.
// I will be on today for NPC interactions and other smaller things.

30th of EleasisNews trickle down from the mountain village of Skull Crag into the lowlands of Cormyr. The rumors that liches from the old kingdom of Esparin were behind the undead hordes seems to be correct. People speak of how a great number of adventurers defended the village against the overwhelming hordes, while awaiting reinforcement from Espar. The apparent leader of the horde, the lich Garon Darlreth, High Wizard of the Esparin Mage Guard, came to speak with the defenders after a long and bloody battle. He had a simple message for the defenders of this "Myrkul shrine" and to the regent of Cormyr. The Cormyrian princess has seven days to end the occupation of Esparin lands, including Skull Crag, Tyrluk, "Yerespar", the Stormhorns and the Stonelands. If the lands belonging to Esparin are not returned, then Cormyr shall be crushed by the mountains. It was at this moment, when the earth colossus sighted near Tyrluk approached the defenders of Skull Crag. Like a mountain given life, it towered over the village and made the lich's threat clear. Soon, a titanic struggle began, as defenders attacked the earth colossus and the colossus struck back, crushing adventurers and buildings alike. After a long struggle, the earth colossus was finally slain when Cathryn, the Witch of the Storm Horns, arrived with a swarm of friendly air elementals that distracted the creature, giving the adventurers the opening to cut it down. When the earth colossus had fallen, the remaining undead hordes appeared to withdraw into the mountains. Cathryn explained that she had been delayed by a great storm, presumably summoned by the liches. She had seen the reinforcement from Espar had suffered similarly, as they were swept away by powerful winds and an avalanche when marching up the mountains. As the victorious defenders discussed what just had happened, it was revealed that one among them was the wanted adventuress Chae'zana Sylneiros. It is said that she and a handful of other adventurers, including the wanted dwarf known as Chop, were responsible for opening a portal that unleashed the liches. Chae'zana and a group of adventurers were teleported to Suzail, and she has now been handed over to the War Wizards. Her bounty notices has been taken down. 31th of EleasisAs the sun rises over Cormyr, many notice posters are found across the realm, summoning houses Hornbow and Silverthorn to a public meeting at Azoun's memorial outside Suzail's northern gate. The posters declare that the War Wizards shall shed light on recent events in the Storm Horns, and present a possible solution to the hordes that plague western Cormyr.

1st of Eleint News from the meeting outside Suzail’s north gate quickly spreads throughout the capital and beyond. War Wizard Berock Vaskander confirmed the rumors that Esparin liches were behind the undead attacks, and that they want to reclaim their old lands. He said that a necromancer known as Tarkas Bresk who was a co-conpirator of the traitor Sheona Hornbow were ultimately responsible, as he had tricked adventurers to open a portal to the Cloudstone Palace of Esparin, and thus releasing the liches.
The Esparin Mage Guard were said to have rebelled and tried to sieze power for themselves when Cormyr annexed Esparin in 1162 DR. They had turned to lichdom, and the War Wizards had trapped them in the palace. The palace had been hidden underground, and the palace grounds covered by strong illusions.
Vaskander presented two solutions to the crisis. One being what he referred to as the "Skyfire Ritual". The most powerful War Wizards would open gates to the planes of fire and earth above the approximate location of the buried palace, and rain destruction upon it until the undead threat is over, and nothing remains but a mile wide crater of rubble and ashes. This idea was not very popular with the crowd, but some did want to see the palace destroyed.
Vaskander also presented a more popular solution, that could not only end the undead threat, but also create a new Shield Barony on Cormyr's northern border. According to legends and prophecy, "the dead shall reign until the fallen heir claims the throne, and the sun shines upon the palace of stone and wind." Prophecies and divinations concerning Esparin has been right so far, and out of respect for the old Esparin families Silverthorn and Hornbow, the Crown has agreed to let them have a chance to reclaim the palace as a Shield Barony of Cormyr. As Vaskander pointed out, both families have "fallen" from their former glory days. It is believed that when an Esparin blooded heir claims the throne, the "reign of the dead" shall end, and the palace shall rise out of the ground so "the sun shall shine on the palace of wind and stone".
Cathryn, the Witch of the Storm Horns, then stepped forward and presented a third option. She introduced herself as Cathryn Stormcrown, last descendant of the Esparin king, Uldor 'the Old' Stormcrown. Lord Edmond Silverthorn and Duncan Hornbow were not pleased by this, as their ancestors had fought to remove Uldor the Old during Enchara’s rebellion. There was some disagreement on if Uldor the Old had been a lich, but Cathryn asked those gathered not to judge her for the sins of her ancestors, just like we should not judge all adventurers or War Wizards by the sins of a few.
As the bickering of nobles continued, Duncan rose from his chair and offered a decisive solution to which house should lead the assault on the palace. He challenged Lord Edmond Silverthorn to an "Esparin Field Duel". Lord Edmond agreed, and so did Cathryn. Vaskander approved of this three way duel, if all participants would respect the outcome. They all swore that they would, and would return here later with their champions.
Lord Edmond Silverthorn, merchant Duncan Hornbow, and the witch Cathryn Stormcrown are now seeking champions to fight for them in the Esparin Field Duel, and they urge any capable warriors to seek them out. These champions does not need to swear the oaths that traditional retainers are known to do.
As news spread of the plan to stop the undead hordes, common information regarding the candidates for the Cloudstone Throne is easy to come by in almost any tavern or inn…
House Silverthorn House Silverthorn is said to have a history as monster hunters and silver miners. They are currently near broke, staying at the Lonesome Tankard Inn in Eveningstar. Lord Edmond’s son and heir, Raymond, is currently trapped or dead within their silver mine in the northern Storm Horns. Lord Edmond wants to rescue him by going through a portal within the Cloudstone Palace leading to the mine. While their house suffers economically, they have a reputation as honourable warriors. It is known Raymond Silverthorn assisted the Greatgaunt Volunteers during the marshland invasion last summer, and led the defence of Skull Crag.
House Hornbow House Hornbow is said to have a history as architects and shrewd, wealthy, merchants, and it is said that the Cloudstone Palace of Esparin was built by the Hornbows. The Crown stripped them of their nobility a hundred years ago, for causing an avalanche that buried the Silverthorn mine. Duncan’s daughter, Sheona, was involved in a conspiracy last summer that resulted in the monster invasion from the Tunlands, and the Hornbows have had dishonorable retainers like Vindel and Vudash. Duncan claims he had nothing do with any of that, and wants to restore his family’s reputation and earn back his nobility by founding a Shield Barony to protect the realm. Duncan assisted the Greatgaunt Volunteers with supplies during the marshland invasion. Duncan can be reached at the Hornbow estate at the Suzail Field Gates.
House Stormcrown House Stormcrown is said to have all gone extinct when Enchara the Peasent Girl led a rebellion against King Uldor ‘the Old’ Stormcrown a few years before Esparin was annexed by Cormyr in 1162 DR. After she personally slew Uldor, she ordered the execution of his entire family. The remaining noble families that did not already support her, quickly swore alliegance to her. However, it seems some may have survived in the Stormhorns. Cathryn ‘the Witch of the Storm Horns’, claims to be the last descendant of Uldor. She has been known to wander the mountains and surrounding areas, helping with childbirths, and telling peoples fortunes. Some rumors say she can even speak with the dead. She also helped against the hordes of the marshland last summer, and fought during the recent attack on Skull Crag. Cathryn is currently staying in Skull Crag.
The Esparin Field Duel is said to have particular rules: - Only certain traditional weapons may be used: long and short spears, daggers, slings and large shields (house shields only). - Weapons must be mundane, and may not be enchanted. - Armor and other equipment may be enchanted. - No spells of any kind, be they arcane or divine. - No potions, wands, or other items that can be used to cast spells. - No healing during the duel. - Each side may bring up to nine champions, but all sides must have equal numbers. - All champions fight all at once. Last man standing is victorious. - The duel is not to the death ("we're not barbarians"). Healers will be available.
The winner of the Field Duel shall lead the assault on the Cloudstone Palace, for a chance to end the undead threat and claim the Cloudstone Throne to establish a Shield Barony in the north. If no one can take the throne, then the War Wizards will destroy the palace in the Skyfire Ritual.
// We're at a critical moment in the plot, and as such a level cap is in effect for certain events.
// There is a 'soft' level cap of 20. If all sides have a champion between levels 21-25, then those champions may participate as long as all sides have equal number of epic champions. There is a hard cap of level 25.
// The exact date for the duel is yet to be decided.

It has been almost a week since the Esparin Field Duel, and it is now common knowledge that House Hornbow won. Hornbow retainer Damian Wayrest and hired champion Dylan defeated the Silverthorn and Stormcrown champions in an exciting two-versus-two-versus-two struggle. As War Wizard Vaskander declared the Hornbows victorious and that they would lead the assault against the undead, the excitement became too much for Lord Edmond Silverthorn. The lord collapsed from a heart attack, but fortunately Henrik of the House of Healing could quickly attend to him. Lord Edmond has since been staying at the House of Healing in Suzail. His family also stayed there for a few days, but has now returned to Eveningstar, leaving the lord with two of his trusted guards.
Cathryn Stormcrown promptly returned to Skull Crag after the duel. She doesn't speak much about it, and instead looks to the future, helping the village recover from the recent battle and prepare for battles to come. She is often seen tending to the wounded, scouting the surrounding area, or watching the mountains in the east.
The Hornbows are now gathering their forces to venture towards the portal in the Storm Horns, and the Cloudstone Palace beyond. Duncan Hornbow announces outside his home in Suzail, that anyone who aids in the recapture of the palace and the destruction of the mad liches of Esparin, shall be rewarded with coin and a share of whatever treasures they may find in the palace, assuming it does not belong to one of the three houses of Hornbow, Silverthorn and Stormcrown. Furthermore, anyone who offers aid shall be considered for retainership and official positions in the eventual Shield Barony. But he points out that such matters will have to be sorted out later... first we have a horde of undead to stop. Before the duel, Vaskander also announced that whoever wins the duel, the other two houses shall have a seat on the Shield Barony council, and the winner will aid in the rescue of Raymond Silverthorn and the miners stuck in the Silverthorn silver mine. Duncan has confirmed that he means to honour this agreement, and he invites the Silverthorn retainers and Stormcrown champions to aid in the attack on the Palace. Vaskander also stressed that should the Cloudstone Palace indeed be made into a Shield Barony, it will be just that; "a Shield Barony in the Stonelands", and not a "Barony of the Stonelands." So far, there has been no comments from the orc warlord Urbucheck who has made claim on the Barony of the Stonelands. The deadline given by the leader of the undead horde, High Wizard Garon Darlreth, has come and gone. The liches remain quiet however, and have not acted on their threat to "bury Cormyr under the mountains unless Cormyr surrenders Esparin lands". The Steel Regent has declared that she will not agree to the demands of the liches. Cormyr remains as it has been since the annexation of Esparin in 1162 DR, and the people of western Cormyr does not need to fear being abandoned to a horde of undead. With the exceptions of a few skirmishes between Purple Dragon scouts and elementals, there has been no major attacks from the undead hordes. "The calm before the storm", some say, as they watch storm clouds gather around the snow covered mountain peaks. In Tyrluk, people have felt more earth tremors, and some say they saw another Earth Colossus rise out of the mountain... // Pardon the delayed post here. I'm postponing the attack on Cloudstone until next week, preliminary Saturday the 21st of September at 8 PM London time.
// While it's not a direct PvP event like the duel, the attack on Cloudstone still has some competitive elements, and as such a level cap of 25 is in effect. If the party fails to capture the palace, then someone else may have to try later. Since this is no ordinary dungeon crawl, there may be some special rules, which I'll announce before the event.
// I will be around today and tomorrow for NPC interactions and PC initiatives. Let me know if you want to do something.

Smoke rises from the War Wizards tower in Suzail. First white and grey, then it turns a sickly red and green. War Wizards and Purple Dragons are quick to gather outside, telling a growing crowd that they "have the situation under control", and "please move along, citizen". Rumours soon circulate among adventurers, even as far away as Greatgaunt, that there was an attack on the tower, and that a prisoner has escaped from the War Wizards, but that the War Wizards caught one of the attackers. Some people in the crowd speculate that the liches of the Esparin Mage Guard was behind it, or that the War Wizards should keep better watch on their "slaad ink". The smoke has cleared the next morning, and War Wizard Vaskander steps out of the tower. He leans tiredly on his staff, and squints with a black eye and swollen eyebrow. He explains to a gathering of worried citizens, that there indeed was a magical assault on the tower, but no one is in danger now. Fortunately, no one was killed, but the adventurer known as Darion Redwater, or more commonly as "Basher", was broken out from jail. For those confused who this Basher was, he reminds them that he was one of the adventurers responsible for opening the portal in the Storm Horns, where all the liches came from that now roam the mountains. The attack on the tower was very sudden and chaotic, and the assailants disappeared quickly through magical means. Vaskander keeps details scarce, and cannot confirm exactly who was behind it at this time, dismissing questions with "no comment, security reasons." He says that if anyone has information regarding the whereabouts of Basher, then they should contact the War Wizards immediately. However, rumours quickly spread from tavern to tavern, and from caravan stop to caravan stop, that the captured attacker was an adventuress named Leah, Ambassador of the Gargoyle.
// The Hornbows are gathering their party, and will venture forth towards Cloudstone Palace on Saturday the 21st at 8 PM London time.

A huge lumbering shape approaches Skull Crag from the east. It is a frost giant. One of its arms has fallen off, and it drags its feet behind. It stops at a bow shot's distance from the gates. It stands silent for a while, before letting out a guttural bellow. It continues to below, gurgle and moan until its lower jaw falls off. Then it falls face first into the snow.
Guardsmen in Skull Crag observes it from a watch tower. "What in the Nine?"

The liches of the Cloudstone Palace has been defeated! The Lost Palace of Esparin has been found! From High Horn to Suzail, people in western Cormyr celebrate the Hornbow victory over the hordes of the Storm Horns and raising of the Lost Palace. After many brave adventurers and retainers fought their way past the horde of undead and colossal earth and air elementals described as "titans", they went through the portal that would take them to the Cloudstone Palace buried under the Stonelands. The fighting was fierce inside the palace, but Duncan Hornbow could eventually sit down on the Cloudstone Throne and declare that he claimed the palace as a "fallen heir of Esparin". A moment later, the palace began to shake as it rose up from the ground and into the Stonelands above. Duncan and his many allies could then leave the palace through the front gates, out into the beautiful Cloudstone valley, where they were greeted by a cool, refreshing, rain. Outside the palace were several abandoned buildings that had previously been hidden by illusions, among them the Hornbow and Silverthorn estates. Once the battle was over and the palace had been raised out of the ground, a portal was opened inside the palace that led to the Silverthorn silver mine. Several adventurers went through and rescued Raymond Silverthorn and two miners that had been stuck there for many tendays. They were gaunt and starved, and Raymond had lost a hand, but were otherwise healthy. Raymond has now taken up residence in the mansion of his ancestors, and it is said that the rest of the Silverthorn family will soon join him. Prophecy had foretold that "the reign of the dead shall end when the fallen heir takes the forsaken throne, and the sun shall shine upon the palace of stone and wind". It appears the prophecy and rumours were true. The undead kept regenerating during the battle inside the palace, but have remained dead since the palace was raised to the surface. Though, there is little sunshine outside, as dark rain clouds seem to linger above the palace, and there is almost always a few rain drops in the air. While the liches has been slain, and the undead hordes and elementals that roamed the Storm Horns has been defeated, there are still some worried whispers about the liches. It is well known among adventurers that to slay a lich, the phylactery containing their soul must be destroyed. No phylacteries has been found. The palace has yet to be fully explored, and Vaskander once again points out that not all liches may have been 'true' liches in the traditional sense.
Duncan Hornbow announced after the battle that he would keep to his word, and reward those who helped in taking the palace and ending the undead threat. A date has yet to be set, but it has been mentioned that there will be some kind of reward ceremony once the palace grounds has been cleaned up a bit. Lord Duncan is currently staying in the old estate outside the palace, as the palace will take far longer to restore.
It is said that the Cloudstone Palace is located somewhere north from Eveningstar, in the southern Stonelands. The passage to the Cloudstone Valley, known as Dead Man's Pass, is hidden by large boulders. Duncan has ordered the entrance to the pass to be marked with a Hornbow banner and brazier, so any visitors know where to climb until the pass can be cleared of boulders. The portals leading into the palace has currently been closed by War Wizard Vaskander, leaving Dead Man's Pass the only way to the palace. In Suzail, the Steel Regent has announced that she accepts Duncan Hornbow as Lord and Shield Baron of Cloudstone, and the Hornbows has now earned back the noble status they lost long ago. As the Crown's offer regarding Shield Baronies stated, Lord Duncan is responsible for defending the barony, and must rule according to Cormyrian laws. Hornbow guardsmen now patrol the palace grounds, as most of the Copperhearth men-at-arms, Medini elite guards, Thayan swordsmen and Red Wizards have returned home to Suzail or Marsember. A handful of Purple Dragons and War Wizards under the command of Berock Vaskander currently remain at the palace, to make sure there are no lingering undead. Some people have expressed concern that this Shield Barony lies within the Stonelands, which is now claimed by the orc warlord Urbucheck. So far, there has been no word from Urbucheck. // The Cloudstone Shield Barony is open for visitors and can currently be reached through a manually placed transition. I'll make an effort to place the transition after each reset… if it's not there, then I'll probably get to it later. Or if you were staying at the palace, just ask me to jump you there.
