Glasha. Her crew called her Ash. She'd been with them for as long as she could remember. Few jobs were too clean or too dirty for them. It wasn't an easy life, but it was the life she knew. It was the life she enjoyed. Mercenary life suited the half-orc just fine. Thanks to her orc blood, she was built for it after all. It was a dirty job that lead to the series of events that got her where she is today. It was supposed to be simple. It was never simple. Kidnap a general, deliver her to an opposing army. All in a days work for her and her crew.
They enlisted into her service as cadets just before she set sail on a scouting run. Ash's crew played the lowly deckhand for several days, until it was time to get the plan in motion. They had a small skiff coming to pick them up that night. They needed to grab their mark, and be quick about it. As the sun fell, the storm clouds rolled in. They should have realized it was a bad omen, but who believes in that kind of thing?
They made their move when the general retired for the evening. Certain she was in bed, they picked the lock to the Captain's quarters and two of them slipped in. The general was impressive, however. As Ash crept to the bed, she shot up with dagger in hand. More of a surprise than a concern, the half-orc got things under control quickly with her superior strength. Just another day.
And just like that, it was done. They bound her wrists and ankles, wrapped her in a blanket, and made the escape. The skiff was waiting as planned. One general kidnapped, without a hitch.
When it is ever without a hitch? They arrived at the old abandoned docks where they were supposed to meet their contact for the hand off. What they got instead was an army waiting for them. And not the one they was working for. Somehow the very people they were acting against got word of their plan. And there they were, holding a very unconscious general of their army.
A daring escape was made, the general dropped among the fray. The crew decided it was best for all of them to lay low and split up for now. Travel in different directions, different countries even, until things cooled off. They'd meet back up later, when they all got word from their captain it was safe. And so Ash was separated from the people she called family. She didn't like it, but she understood the importance. So she hitched a ride to Cormyr.
As for how Ash is doing?
Seems she's settling in just fine.
