The game seemed to install properly, but when I click PLAY, I get the dark window with the NWN logo, then it goes back to the desktop. So now I am out of the game until I can figure it out or we switch to EE. All other games work fine, including NWN EE. Try opening the game from nwmain.exe (may appear as just nwmain if file extensions are hidden on your PC) in your installation directory rather then the default nwn.exe
FM.

It could be a permission issue. Find where nwmani.exe is located. Select it and use a right-click of your mouse. From the list select properties Find the tab that says compatibility select it. Check the box for compatibility mode and select from the list Windows XP service pack 3. Also there will be a checkbox that says Run this program as an Administrator. Select that also.
Also some times the intro movies cause issue. Launching directly to FRC helps. Find the icon that you use to open the game. Select it and use a right-mouse click to open a properties menu. In the place where it says target paste
C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect frc.ddns.net:5121
Now for you the first part of this can be different. Depends where the game was installed That is C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\ part. It should match what is listed in the Start in dialog box. You may need to replace the first bit to match if the game is in a slightly different place or with a different name. Copy and paste what is in the "Start in" box in front of
\nwmain.exe +connect frc.ddns.net:5121
Copy the two pieces together and place the whole thing in Target. That will launch you directly to FRC.
There is also a way to shut off the introduction scenes in the Never Winter INI file.

You check your EE document window folder to see if some how it is there? Also in the nwn note pad do this Disable Movies=1 That will prevent any introduction movies which can cause havok.

Did you download the files before you did a reinstall? Have you an saved one you can try and reload that? I did that when I switched computers.

This really sounds like a hardware issue. Do you have other games on your computer? Do they run okay? It sounds like either your pc is overheating or your graphics card is failing. Graphics cards can and do die slowly where things just get gradually worse.

Tried that. No luck.

Do you have CCleaner? I think the free version (or if not, at least the trial) has a tool to clean up programs that didn't uninstall completely.
When you go to install from the disks, are you running the install program as an administrator, or just letting the autorun try to install?

Thought I could reinstall from original disks. No the original disks treat the game as brand new. Some files are saved and some are deleted . If you upload form an external drive all settings and files saved. I suggest going into the nwn file and check the files on your drive. If they are not in the folder then you can add. As someelse ,emtioned you do need to do install as admin. If it is installed click and check the run as admin box.

I asked this before awhile back but I need to know what graphic card your new pc has. Is it Nvidia? If you bought it already built from a store or online it would tell you in the spec documentation. You can also look it up in your settings under display properties. If it is an Nvidia card for example, you can go to their site and download the correct current driver for that card. There is no risk in doing this. It is an executable and you just run it and it does everything for you. Even if you uninstalled an old driver and did not install a new one Windows would just run on its default display driver so there is zero risk to uninstalling and reinstalling video card drivers. But having your pc run on drivers specific for your video card is important for running all games properly.

You can go into device manager and click on the graphics card and look at the drivers tab. It will tell you if an Nvidia driver is installed. Besides that do what the others said and turn the intro movies off in the ini file, run the game in compatibility mode for windows Vista or XP, run the exe file that takes you directly into the game and not the window pop-up with the different options. If you want to install a new driver just google Nvidia driver archive and go there and it has drop down menus to select your card (eg. 1060 GTX) and Windows version (eg. Windows 10 64 bit professional edition). Just download the driver for your card.

Ok, I'm back and proud of myself. I was able to uninstall NWN completely thanks to a free download of a program called Iobit uninstaller. After a couple of tries, I was able to reinstall from the original disks. Movement seems to be back to the way it was before it got choppy/ See you all IG.
