Rumours circulate in Arabel of a house burning down in the western part of the city, close to the statue of King Dhalmass. The fire had started in the afternoon, and guards and a war wizard were quickly on the scene, but thought the house to be too far gone to save.
Adventurers also arrived at the burning house, with a more positive outlook. It is said that a halfling cleric of Brandobaris braved the flames and dragged out a girl and a woman, who had both been badly burned. The halfling and the war wizard then quickly carried away the bodies to the Temple of Tymora, while an elven wizard summoned a water elemental to douse the flames. While the fire was put out, the house was unfortunately still very badly damaged, and collapsed in on itself.
Despite the halfling cleric's valiant attempt to save the victims, only the girl could be saved. "A miracle", people say, for the halfling did manage to raise the woman - Elira Barrowfog - only for her to whisper the girl's name with her last breath and once more return to Kelemvor's realm. It is said that in that moment, the girl awoke, blessed by Tymora, or Brandobaris, or perhaps sent back by Kelemvor? No one knows for sure, but all agree it was very lucky considering how wounded she was. Sonya Barrowfog is the girl's name, and apparently she is the daughter of the war wizard Mauris Barrowfog, who stood like paralysed and watched the house burn.
How the fire started remains a mystery, but rumours tell of a dwarf with a "strangely stiff face" and a human in brown robes asked around for the "Barrowfog girl" shortly before the fire started. Mauris Barrowfog has promised a reward to anyone who can offer insight into how the fire started, or information that can lead to the suspects.
