Esteemed Council, I am sure you are well aware of of what this letter in in regards to however I have found that I cannot in good conscience stand by and not say anything. As you are likely well aware I served as a member of the volunteers for quite some time and was invited to join the Valkur's Roar inquisitors due to my investigative talents. It has long been established that acts of vengeance by adventurers who are not part of an official arm of the law is strongly discouraged and such an act would be seen as an unlawful order, however after a through investigation I have determined that there is at least one indisputable fact that proves that the paladin Holance infact acted lawfully in the defense of a Cormyrian citizen. That fact is that the moment the man known as "Shiv of Talos" withdrew from his assault on the man he was attacking, So did Holance, without hesitation. This fact, while some claim is not relevant is undeniable truth that Holance's goal was not to kill the man known as Shiv, but merely to prevent further combat. Holance had demonstrated his willingness to accept surrender or retreat and leave the matters in the hands of the local law enforcement. Holance only slew the man when it became apparent that the man would not stop until his quarry was deceased and that the man would not submit to the law and will of the council Given that this evidence is confirmed by every single witness to the event, I is my advice that that it is in the best interests of the council to demonstrate their dedication to the crown and it's laws by finding the Paladin Holance Not guilty of murder.
