*The elf maid raises her head, eyes groggy, the world swirling around her as a grey mist. Everything is a fog. As the scattered tidbits of her mind coalesce into coherent thoughts, she remembers a battle with a bugbear. A ferocious one, the leader of his tribe. Too much to face, he was. But on his last leg, vulnerable to defeat at the hands of a determined elf. And there was a comrade down.
*There was a stoneskin potion. And a death armor. Flashes of steel. Blood. Elf blood. Flashes of magic. More blood. And more. And more ...
*Blow after blow had landed against her flesh, the relentless, overpowering monster driving through the stoneskin, overwhelming her defenses, cutting into her badly. But the magic ... the death armor was also doing its work.
*Until finally, the world went dark, and she slumped to the ground.
*An indeterminate time passed in the darkness, a low rushing sound filling her ears. The sound of her own blood coursing through the veins in her head. And now, she raises her head to look about. Grievously wounded, she is still alive. No doubt to be snuffed out in finality by the bugbear chief who is looming...
*No. He's not looming at all. Scarred terribly by magic, perhaps a death armor effect, he's lying dead by her feet. She puts it together. As his last blow landed, striking her unconscious, he did himself in on the magic of the potion she'd taken to strike back.*
