Arrange them in a partial circle, such that the space occupied by each stall is 36 degrees of the circle. The tenth stall will then be implied, bounded by the outside walls of the first and ninth.
Did not expect that as an answer.
Anyways, this is the answer: |T|E|N|H|O|R|S|E|S|
I only give out-of-the-box solutions.

That or it's a Potoooooooo situation, and it's one horse with eight unoccupied stalls.

What seems like a simple question becomes more complicated when the actual ground path of the dog is tracked. They would not run in a straight line, not just because the trees themselves produce an interference pattern that would disrupt any straight line, but because of their own behavior of being distracted by squirrels and finding things to piss on. As such the total distance travelled will undoubtedly be greater than half the diameter of the forest, which itself is unlikely to be a perfect circle...though this comes out in the wash if we have variable forest size to begin with, and simply state r as half the width of the forest at the given point of entry. I may have to do some math on this. Initial variables just off the top of my head include:
Size of tree trunks encountered Density of tree growth Obstruction by ground cover or rocky terrain Population distribution of squirrels Availability of water sources to reload dog bladder Frequency of urination attempt modified by bladder availability

At some point the dog may get tired of running and start walking into the woods.

When you’re a pedestrian crossing the street. When you eat a Watermelon. When you're red/green colorblind and you get confused by those occasional horizontal traffic signals while driving.

Does 7! count as multiplication? If so, there's always ln 7 to one significant digit...

* How can you read a book without finishing a sentence? Find a first draft copy of Ulysses by James Joyce, before his editor made him put in at least SOME punctuation? (yes, I slogged through it years ago just so I could say I read it)
