Hello Justicar,
Oh, it has been a long night for us FRC players. After being booted repeated times I decided to log the ping rating and the resounding players of the FRC servers to see what characters might be bringing unwanted lag and/or crashes into the FRC servers. I sent you a message earlier, which contained only the bottom of the log. I ended up monitoring the servers for the next one and a half hours and upon the main server crashing I would present the observations to the FRC players on the NWN chat. It seems that older characters, especially ones that have been sitting on the FRC vault untouched for some time, bring the server’s ping rating high above the norm; anywhere from six thousand to nine thousand ping! Even worse is that players who have these un-played characters saved to their name still retain the unwanted laggy static when they log into the server. The FRC community thus decided to select their unused characters and bring them through the second server into the first server. Soon after the ping of the servers dropped significantly though problems still remained. After my session of monitoring I asked the FRC community, on the NWN chat, to reflect on what we’ve observed, for by that point, the whole FRC community who was online began to monitor the ping ratings along with me. We all came to three conclusions that I will now share with you. One, which I have mentioned before, as have your self, is that a password be placed on the primary FRC server. This would force FRC players to log into the second server so that they may log into the first. Upon logging into the second server a large sign, in cap locks, and flashing should alert the players to read the sign to find the first server’s password. Secondly, before the password is shown, one should read text that tells the player to go through every character one has saved on the vault, illegal and unused included, into server two then into server one. Along with this, a message informing players to request the deletion of any illegal and unwanted characters should be made. Lastly, there should be text on this sign that informs people to hold more awareness to the ping ratings on the servers. If one sees that the server’s ping rating is high one should wait until the ping rating stabilizes. This would cut back on the unwanted lag when a rush of players log into the FRC server. I would like to say that the FRC community at large is very understanding of the recent server problems. Keep up the good work, this message goes to you along with the other DM’s, and know that we appreciate everything that the team does for the FRC server and community.
Thanks for you time,
Panros
