I guess I've got a bit of Roleplayers Block when it's coming to my other character, Marichelle.
Long story short because of a curse she has become both weak and blind. She lives her life as a wandering vagabond. The blindness is a permanent thing. Even if the curse is lifted she still will be without sight, this was always intended to remain.
She is a level 1 sorceress and I only have this as she's still able to sense the weave a bit.
However...
...how the heck does a blind wandering vagabond receive an Adventuring Charter? >_< I've rumbled it in my head over and over and can't come up with some simple non-cheesy solution to it.
I have come up with the notion, though, that Cormyr has tightened up it's boarder security and thus gives explanation as to how Marichelle could have been in Cormyr before, but not now.
So I'm tossing it open to you guys for a little help. Any thoughts?

Well, how does a commoner migrate to Cormyr?
Is Cormyr closed to all non-adventurers? Maybe she can gain permission to move there.

Maybe she had it before the curse?

Just to clarify, does she even need one? My understanding of the charters was that you needed it for a group of adventurers of six or more, and needed a name for the group, etc. For individuals, groups of less than six, or even transient groups, a charter isn't needed.
Obviously, things have changed since that was written. Just not sure if they have changed the rules since the war, though.

It's needed in order to pass the Cormyrian Border area. And in order to get it she needs to pay 1000 gold to get it. And the only ways to get it there is to go through the quests.
So you see where my dilemma is.

Ok, so assuming she wasn't born in Cormyr, are we talking about how she got into Cormyr in the first place?
I like the idea that she had it before she went blind, when she was more powerful and able to earn it. Now, she still has it but is a shadow of her old self.
Or... The border probably isn't fully patrolled. There are probably any number of ways to get into or out of the country without seeing any type of border patrol.
Or... she was born in Cormyr, so why would she need a charter to come and go to her own country?
Or... she has powerful friends from old who felt sorry for her predicament and got her the charter so she could travel freely.
Or... she found it on a body (assuming they are somewhat generic and don't specify a person's name) during her travels.
Just a couple of ideas.

Well to me the question is do you plan for her to adventure at all? If so I don't see why she wouldn't do the quest. If she is not going to adventure, then I think the reason she would do it is to prove she can support herself while in Cormyr. I know that doesn't really fit the setting well, but with the end of the war and such the land needs no more refugees and people that would need hand outs.
Those are my thoughts

The Quests are OOC in a general sense. They may or may not (in this case) apply to your character. Nothing is ever written in absolute stone in a role-playing environment anyway (except the server rules, dagnabitt!).
Please do follow the rules in their spirit and practice, but simple things like this can easily be explained in the imagination. Just because she does the quests doesn't mean they define her character, or that they even *happened* to that particular character if you catch my drift...

This is just an idea shadowcatjen, and by all means regard or disregard it at your pleasure. Since she is a sorceror she has a familiar. Maybe this familiar of hers can grant her the ability to see through it's eyes. So in fact that she is blind but she may see things everyonce in a while. Also, the familar should probably be something that can go indoors, a memphit/raven/pixie/psuedodragon. I would go with the memphit because these creatures can talk and can be disciplined to be non hostile (thanks to the /dm ; [text] command). In this way you would need an adventuring charter to allow you and your familiar access in any town for it is your eyes though deep down she might not really need them for she might have supersonic hearing (loose one sense gain another ). Of course you would probably need a DM's permission to allow your familiar into towns/indoors. I don't know, it's 1 in the morning and I'm lacking sleep. Go for it if you wish. Now you just need to think of why she is coming to Cormyr. Maybe she is coming back home after an unsuccesful voyage. *shrugs* God, I rambled too much.

Of all those that you listed, I would think a raven would make more sense. I really don't like how level 1 characters can get uber familiars though. A raven would make more sense because birds are known to attack eyes so a raven might be more likely to socialize with a blind person than it would were they not blind. Of course you can say the same thing for a mephit or a pseudodragon, but in my "humble" opinion, both of those are a bit beyond what a level 1 character should have anyway. According to the PHB, a raven familiar can speak 1 language that its master knows too. (Limited, of course, by its own INT score.)

Well if a raven as a familiar can talk, there you go. Go get that charter! *does a touchdown dance* Then maybe in the future you can morph the thing into something stronger.

Or... you know, leave it as a raven because ravens are cool familars.

What about a bat. Heh - it's radar could help guide ye around and you'd have something in common with it! Mephits and Dragon familiars won't likely be accepted by townsfolk well.

I appreciate all the input I've received on this. ^_^ But as it turns out the sorcerer quest to get the charter was just a matter of her finding things. And being as that she can sense the weave to a degree she felt where the ward was. I simply had her begrudgingly accept that this needed to be done, long as she didn't have to -fight- anything then I was fine. (Also had her continuously grumble that she "...was not... an adventurer...") As for the familiar she does have one. I will not say what kind. Currently because of her curse her familiar and she have "lost contact". Perhaps through some RP her familiar will eventually show, but we'll see what happens. ^_^
