Marsember; the busiest port in Cormyr. The City of Spices has long been a busy place, with people always on the move. Sailors, dockworkers, merchants, prostitutes, travellers, smugglers, adventurers and Blue Dragons, all crowd the wet boardwalks, piers, marshy islands and skiffs on the narrow waterways. Since the war with Sembia, some parts of Marsember, like the docks, has been more crowded than usual as builders, carpenters, stonemasons and shipbuilders go about repairing the many buildings and ships that were damaged in the war. One of these damaged buildings was an old warehouse near the western gates in the Naval Docks district. Many workers have come and gone over the past year, repairing and renovating the structure. Flagstones, floorboards, and buckets of paint have been carried inside, and old burnt wood has been thrown out. A stone fence has been erected around the house, a fountain has been built at the backyard pond, and the broken tiles on the roof has been replaced. Large exotic carpets, finely carved tables and bookcases, cushioned chairs, a curvy Marsemban couch, oil paintings, velvet curtains, a sizeable bathtub and other fine furniture have all disappeared into the house along with at least one sturdy safe. For some reason, rumours speak of how the old warehouse is being turned into a temple of Yondalla, but no hin has been sighted nearby. Others claim such rumours are nonsense, and that it is a warehouse of the Red Myst Trading Coster, or some sort of private - and decadent - luxury club or bath house. A blonde woman in an elegant dress has occasionally overseen the construction, paying the workers handsomely to keep their work as discreet as possible. After many moons of quiet work and only a few odd rumours leaking out, the internal and external renovations seems to have finally finished. The caravan of furniture going inside has stopped, and a sign is put up above the door. It displays a cornucopia overflowing with coins on a deep green shield, and reads, in black bold letters: The Cornucopia Trading Company
Exotic Goods and Money Lending // This is an open thread for any roleplay and updates concerning the Cornucopia Trading Company.

I thought to myself perhaps. “Nothing ventured nothing gained after all.”
There was still a fair bit of commotion and bustle about the place but the sign did seem to suggest the enterprise was open. I wrinkled my nose at the damp scent of still drying paint. My eyes swept over the room taking in the myriad of sights until I settled on a clerk manning the till. Carefully and cautiously I made my way to the shops front desk. I flashed the clerk a warm smile and fixed my gaze squarely upon the shop-keeper. With a wry smile to myself the dance of the coins has begun.
“I see you claim and indeed have in your possession a wide variety of exotic sundries and wares. Perhaps you might have what I require this day. Specifically I am looking for lodestone or a compass. Might you have such an item on stock or failing that can you obtain such given a few days? ”

The shopkeeper, a blonde woman in an elegant dress and fine jewelry, turns out to be the owner herself. She explains that at this time she runs the shop mostly on her own. At the inquiry for lodestones or compasses she looks a bit thoughtful, but then shakes her head.
"I'm afraid I don't have any such goods in stock, but I shall look into it. If you would please give me your name and address, I will send word once I know more." She smiles widely, showing white teeth.

Rumours spread from Greatgaunt that the merchant and moneylender Valera Serena made an announcement to a large crowd at a recent Volunteer muster. Apparently, Valera's new company, the Cornucopia Trading Company, is now offering some sort of sponsorship to adventurers. A few days later, finely illustrated posters appear throughout Cormyr in places where adventurers frequent, depicting a cornucopia overflowing with coins on a deep green shield. Below the symbol, you can read:

A small pout crossed my face “Such a pretty smile you have and such pity you lack what I desire but well rather understandable. Still one always has hopes. I shall be in Marsember for a fortnight gathering a few other items required for my endeavours here. As a consequence I shall be somewhat .... busy so best to send word to ah, what is his name…. Oh yes Edwin. Edwin of the Leering Lecher inn. I do hope that you are able to find me either the lodestone or compass and sooner in this endeavour is better than later. May the winds swiftly bring me word of your success.”
With that I turn to depart from the store.

Every Hour, sixteen gnomes are seen scattering about Marsember to replace these rewritten notes. Sixteen halflings do so in the half hour intervals between the gnomes. At the sight of the guards, they would flee but return to replace the notes regardless.

Ahmed would happen by such a letter, perhaps one marked with a certain prankster's writings.
He would consider the items, then ponder if there might be an item of benefit he might donate to increase foot traffic to Marsember's markets.

Beginning on the 4th of Uktar and for a tenday's duration, a Purple Dragon patrols the street, passing the auction notice twice per hour. There are three Purple Dragons patrolling this beat, each on a different shift covering night and day.
The first soldier is Blade Thomstein, a pot-bellied ginger whiskered youth, native to the city.
The second shift is patrolled by Blade Haedros, thin as a rake, sharp eyed with a pointed nose and a thin moustache. They say nothing gets past Haedros and he will pursue something doggedly towards resolution. Such was the case when Lady Thundersword's Poohuahua was caught urinating on the hedges. Haedros chased the pedigree for six hours before the canine gave up and rolled over onto her back.
The dead shift is patrolled by Telsword Saundersun. Saundersun is nearly fifty winters and still holds the rank of Telsword after "thirty years in the Purple." Saundersun's mates regard him in equal parts of ridicule and awe.
Faithfully for seven days and seven nights, the patrols are maintained.

A hawk nosed man in a suit of black chainmail highlighted by a dark blue undertone approaches Telsword Saundersun during his rounds during the evening, greeting him cheerfully and walking along with him in casual smalltalk during his patrol. He inquires about the man's experience, his lifestyle, and his personal hobbies or interests rather casually, as if this was a common meeting among friends. Subtly, he would offer a bit of a pecking hint at the man's ridicule by others throughout the conversation, hinting how others do not show him respect like he should be getting.

Another stranger to Marsember is prowling about of late. In dark purple plate and well defended from the region's weather by a vertical - facing shield of black silk, an axe-bearing warrior woman of self-reputed fame is in and out rather often, in the Company buildings and others. Is she buying? Selling? Nosy? Those who know the woman may intuit that it's all of these, and more.
She is in fact "just leaving" as Ahmed arrives, offering a pleasant and proper nod, her usual wry smirk fixed in place as she wanders off elsewhere in the building.

Ahmed would walk slowly along the docks of Marsember... lowering the brim of his hat as the rain continued to fall.
At last he would reach the Cornucopia Trading Company's Office. Briefly making note of the lack of naval vessels in Corymr's "proud" fleet, he would enter the property bearing a gift, a potted Chessentan red pepper plant. Upon entering the waiting area and dipping his head politely, he would set the plant to the side.
"Good even Valera, I come this time only for a short visit, though the last conversation was most... satisfying. Has there been any recent news regarding those Arabelan heavy gauntlets?"
He would slowly reach into his pack to pull out a large shield... of sorts. It is brimming with magical energies.
"A recent import... well made, with some enchantments... it possesses full magical immunity against a certain spell as well as other abilities. I believe it would do well at the auction. Compliments of the Marsember Enclave. I would price it between 35,000 to 40,000 lions."

*With the beginning of the auction an average sized but well built elf with a mask on his face which reveals only his dark piercing eyes, clad in the colors of the trading company on top of which he wears a full plate and tower shield stands mostly inside the room where the goods are displayed and quietly observes the on goings. He would greet politely every newcomer with slightly bowing his head and remain quiet unless someone speaks to him*

Valera thanks Ahmed for the potted red pepper plant and puts it on a safe behind her desk. She explains she has not heard back regarding the Arabellan heavy gauntlets, but will make another inquiry about them. With great curiosity, she then examines the magical shield and thanks Ahmed and the Enclave for their generous donation for the good of Marsember.
"I will have it up on the posters as soon as possible, I just need a little time to properly inspect and price it."

Miss Valera,
I am very interested in the armor that you have but will be unavailable on Saturday to attend. Perhaps we will be capable of working something out in which I give you how much I'd like to spend silently, and if it is passed then that is that. I would of course like to inspect it before placing a bid. Perhaps if we see eachother soon I will beable to speak with you on the matter.
sincerely, Amothrade Deseven

The note left, for whoever picks it up, says: Marsember, Uktar 5th 1379 D. R. Dear Valera, having arrived at an inconvenient time, I'm leaving you this message to inform you about my desire to acquire bags of various spices from this, your office in the City of Spices. I am looking for cinnamon, star anis seed, cardamom, ginger, and cloves and will check back with you soon, possibly after your auction when I'm guessing you will have more leisure for such smaller business. Thank you in advance, Tarithel Novar

A large bald warrior parks himself beside the front door of the Cornucopia Trading office one morning. He stands alert and on guard. Any who wish to ask him questions pertaining to the company itself or the auction he replies by stating that he is only on guard here and that any questions regarding such matters should be taken up with Valera herself.

Thank you in advance, Tarithel Novar Valera finds the letter and reads it, but does not send any reply at this time. Instead, she tucks it into a ledger for potential business opportunities.

*Vennis can be seen, on occasional breaks from his duties at the Academy, wandering over to the Cornucopia Trading company. He nods a cheery hello to passersby but keeps a close watch on the building as he does so. From time to time he enters the Warehouse, examines the display case of the auction items before returning to his rounds.*

A woman in a diaphanous white gown with blue tinting enters the shop'
"I was here prior in regards to a compass needle, however I shan't requite that item now. I thought it best to inform you and also having heard rumours of an auction. One item hmm... no two intrigue me. I do believe things are done by sealed bid."
With that she hands over a woven cloth bag.
"Inside I have indicated which of the items I desire and the sum that I am willing to donate. I do wish you every success."
With that she turns to depart.

Valera records the bids in her white ledger. // Auction starts in roughly six hours from this post. Maybe a little later. Here's a countdown until the auction starts. If you cannot come to the auction, you can still make bids through PMs, tells in-game or IC meetings. If you want to be anonymous, remember to mark the bid as anonymous. // The auction will be held outside the Cornucopia Trading Company office in Marsember - Naval Docks, located east of the Alizarin Academy. Quickest way there is by taking a skiff for 1 GP from the Main Gates/Caravan. Or just keep walking east from caravan until you come to the Naval Docks.
